MediaTek presented a number of technological demonstrations at MWC 2024. These included new examples of real-time generative AI video diffusion and pre-6G ambient computing, as well as next-generation product highlights in NTN, 5G RedCap, and 5G CPE, along with partnerships in Dimensity Auto. Devices with MediaTek technology from some of the top brands in the world were also on display.

Joe Chen, President of MediaTek, stated, “We are continuing to expand our leadership in several key product categories, and MWC gives us a great opportunity to demonstrate our growth by highlighting our latest developments in 5G RedCap, CPE, satellite broadband, and generative AI at the edge.” “We’re also laying the foundation for the 6G era by utilizing novel inventions in emerging categories such as ambient computing.”

Real-time Generative AI Video Diffusion powered by MediaTek 7th Gen AI Processor

MediaTek revealed the first generative AI video diffusion on a mobile device at MWC 2024, which was fully powered by the Dimensity 9300, the company’s top 5G mobile CPU. The world’s first hardware-based generative AI engine, featuring safe, personalized AI, bandwidth reduction, LoRA Fusion, and eight times quicker generative AI performance than MediaTek’s previous generation AI processor, is integrated into this industry-leading smartphone chip.

    Expanding Auto Industry Collaborations

Using OpenSynergy Hypervisor technology to demonstrate virtualized operating systems in cars, Dimensity Auto will prioritize safety features. Furthermore, MediaTek and ACCESS Twine4Car are collaborating to create more dynamic and rich multi-screen entertainment. At the heart of these collaborations are the Dimensity Auto infotainment and smart cockpit platforms, which offer extremely powerful processing to manage multiple operating systems, multiple wireless connectivity feeds, multiple simultaneous video playbacks, and even sophisticated 3D graphics and generative AI for the driver and passengers.

World’s First RedCap RFSoC Platform for 5G IoT and Wearables

With the recently released MediaTek T300 platform, IoT designers will find it simple to move to 5G-NR for applications like wearables, lightweight virtual reality devices, and always-connected IoT modules that demand ultra-efficient connectivity and long-lasting battery life. MediaTek showcased at MWC 2024 how it can reliably and dramatically reduce transmission latency compared to previous generation connectivity for AR and IIoT applications by providing important traffic flows with exact scheduling precision. Using the Keysight UXM5G Wireless Test Platform, the low-power demonstration demonstrated the capabilities and performance of MediaTek’s new RedCap RFSoC.

Exclusive New 5G CPE Technologies Enhancing Performance and User Experiences

For 5G CPE devices running on its T830 platform, MediaTek showcased its most recent features. These features include low-latency, low-loss, and scalable throughput (L4S), which greatly decreases network latency and greatly improves the user experience when compared to legacy designs, and uplink performance enhancements using three transmission antennae (3TX), applicable across 5G NR band combinations. In cooperation with the Anritsu MT8000A test station, the demonstration was carried out.

World’s First 5G-Advanced Satellite Broadband & Foundation of Pre-6G NTN User Experience

In 2023, MediaTek successfully launched the MT6825. Now, the company is leading the way in satellite communication technology with a live demonstration of its next-generation, 5G-Advanced NR-NTN satellite test chip. Using the SMW200A Victor Signal Generator, R&S FSW Signal Analyzer, and ITRI NR NTN test gNB, the company collaborates with Rohde & Schwarz to deliver more than 100Mbps data throughput with advanced LEO satellite support over Ku-band for automotive and broader types of terminals. Afterwards, a lifelike simulation of a LEO satellite fly-by was presented, marking the first-ever global user experience demonstration of pre-6G satellite broadband.

6G Ambient Computing offering Private, Seamless Virtual Personal Networks & Aggregated Acceleration

MediaTek gave a demonstration of how ambient computing and the convergence of connectivity would shape personal networks in the future. As the number of IoT devices in homes increases, third-party servers and services are typically used to manage these devices from outside the home. A private ambient (virtual) network that makes use of home routers and 5G devices would reduce the need for complicated configuration, including secure tunneling and port forwarding, by offering a more streamlined, private, dependable, and responsive experience. As a result, managing the Internet of Things at home becomes easier, network storage can be streamed, and aggregated computing—which processes information from one device or across several devices at once—is enhanced.
