“Migrating the transaction confirmation messages from text messages to the app inbox will help ensure users are only getting legitimate messages regarding their GCash transactions,”, Ingrid Rose Ann Beroña stated just this September 06, 2022.

Starting this September, the famous mobile wallet app, GCash, announced a major change. They will now be moving their message confirmations and updates from text messages to their own app inbox. This is to securely ensure that all updates are authentic, and will also help customers to easily track all transactions.

    All-around scams

Frauds and scams are nonstop these days, and they aren’t decreasing, they are even upgrading their strategies. The social media and the news already warned the people that scammers somehow got ahold of private information now. Most texts now contain names, but do not be fooled. Therefore, always be more careful, and make sure to confirm the authenticity of every message you receive.

Gladly, this issue does not pass by silently to one of the most used wallet app. They released statements and made new security measures. GCash has already been sending text advisories to their users about the change they are about to do. At the same time, the e-wallet has blacklisted fraudulent and scammed transactions in users’ accounts as well.

    The new GCash feature

This month, GCash app users will now be able to access the “Pay Bills” feature, which can be found on the “Activity” button. This contains all confirmation messages of every transaction, with the following messages for both the “Send Money” and “Buy Load” services. The E-wallet users are already familiar with the “Activity” button as it has been already there before, containing the transaction history.

In addition, they have changed the format of the receivers’ name printed on every transactions’ virtual receipt as well. GCash does not reveal the complete names of the receiver anymore, and put asterisks on most of the letters instead for more security.

    Extra protection

For more assurance of security to the mobile wallet app, GCash has also partnered with the Philippine National Police–Anti-Cybercrime Group, the National Bureau of Investigation Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD), and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Not only that, GCash now constructs an insurance portfolio, along with an Online Shopping Insurance, to defend against frauds. Surely, they are working well for their real-time risk monitoring systems and hopefully, they capture every scams and suspicious activities.

    #SafeWithGCash

According to GCash’ chief risk officer, Beroña “GCash has been relentless in protecting the funds and personal data of our customers.” That is why they have decided their new app notification. She further said, “Aside from improving security, we hope this move makes the experience of GCash users more seamless and convenient as we strive to make their everyday lives better,”.

In conclusion, these security measures and wise efforts from GCash will surely make a huge change, and will help a lot. That is why let us support their #SafeWithGCash Campaign against frauds and scammers by becoming extra vigilant when making transactions.
