Yesterday at NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference 2022, the NVIDIA launches its new Ada Lovelace architecture powered GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards.
With AI-powered graphics, more immersive gameplay, and the fastest content creation workflows, these graphics cards offer gamers and creators a significant boost in performance. Do these cards are your next upgrade? Let’s see!
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series launched!
NVIDIA’s Ada Lovelace GPU has some impressive specifications. On the shader side, it has a new streaming multiprocessor that offers a performance of up to 83 TFLOPS, only for shading. It can give up to twice as much performance as the current NVIDIA GPU, which is a big improvement.
Moreover, the third-generation RT cores included in the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series for ray tracing offer up to 191 effect TFLOPS of ray tracing performance, an increase of 2.8x over the previous generation.
These GPUs have fourth-generation Tensor Cores, which when used with FP8 acceleration, can produce 1.32 Tensor PFLOPS (petaflops), a tremendous 5x improvement over the previous generation.
They also introduced a new feature called Shader Execution Reordering. As the name implies, this enables the GPU to dynamically reorganize shader tasks to best use the GPU. Workloads are frequently sequentially sent to the GPU, and not all of them make use of the GPU’s full potential.
These GPUs can process more of these tasks simultaneously and utilize their full capability to provide greater performance by rearranging them. According to NVIDIA, this can boost ray-tracing speed by up to three times and increase gaming frame rates by 25%.
With the 4nm process design, NVIDIA guarantees us that these new GPUs will provide twice the power efficiency as their predecessors. Given how power-hungry current GPUs already are, the increase in performance shouldn’t result in a significant rise in power usage.
In addition, the 40-series cards will also include two 8th-generation NVIDIA Encoders (NVENC). These will be able to encode as well as decode AV1.
DLSS 3
The GeForce RTX 40 series also support DLSS 3, the third generation of NVIDIA’s deep-learning supersampling technology. Through the use of DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS 3 offers even more enhancements to boost framerates even more while getting around CPU limitations.
Also, DLSS 3 uses NVIDIA Reflex, which reduces system latency by allowing the CPU and GPU to engage more closely.
They also include new features like streaming multiprocessors with up to 83 teraflops of shader capability, Shader Execution Reordering, Ada Optical Flow Accelerator, architectural optimizations, and Dual NVIDIA Encoders.
Over 35 games and applications, including Microsoft Flight Simulator, Cyberpunk 2077, and tools like Unity and Unreal Engine, have already announced support for DLSS 3. NVIDIA also unveiled Portal RTX, a new version of Portal built for ray tracing and DLSS 3.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
The new RTX 4090 is at the top of the series. It has 16384 CUDA cores with a boost clock of up to 2.52GHz. the card has 24GB of GDDR6X memory and a 384-bit memory interface. According to NVIDIA, it is 2-4 times faster than the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 4090 has a 450W power rating and is powered by a single 16-pin PCIe Gen 5 or three 8-pin PCIe connections.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080
Next is the new RTX 4080 which comes in two variations. The higher-end variant has a 2.51GHz boost clock and 9728 CUDA cores. It contains 16GB of GDDR6X memory with a 256-bit interface. It is allegedly 2-4 times quicker than the RTX 3080 Ti.
While another variant comes with 12GB of GDDR6X RAM and a 192-bit memory interface. This version has 7680 CUDA cores and a boost clock of 2.61GHz.
Price and availability
- RTX 4080 12GB – USD 899 (around PHP 52.5K)
- RTX 4080 16GB – USD 1,199 (around PHP 70K)
- RTX 4090 24GB – USD 1,599 (around PHP 93.4K)
The RTX 4090 will be available in the market starting this October 12, while the RTX 4080 is in November. NVIDIA said that they will also produce a limited Founders Edition. For more information about the GeForce RTX 40 series, just visit the official website of NVIDIA.
