While other ticketing platforms struggled to keep up with the volume and demand for Taylor Swift’s world tour ticket sales, Klook, Asia’s biggest travel and experiences platform, didn’t face any hiccups.

Klook Experiences Packages for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour in Singapore sold out in mere hours on July 7, with Filipino Swifties acquiring the most tickets via the app. More than 600,000 fans from throughout the area waited online with their Klook app, eager to spend large on bundled accommodation and ticket packages, with the most expensive package costing about USD 5,000 (approximately PHP 205,000).

How exactly did Klook pull this off?

“Ticketing concerts and music events is not new to us; in fact, we have been preparing for such high-volume events even before the pandemic hit. With the pandemic-induced event hiatus, we capitalized on the opportunity to ramp up our systems, push our capabilities to new limits, and really deliver an unparalleled booking experience as we’ve seen with the successful Taylor Swift ticket sales,” shared Bernie Xiong, CTO & Co-Founder, Klook.

“As a travel tech company at our core, we have honed our expertise in handling diverse travel products, from attractions to rail tickets, each with its own complexities. The accumulation of all that know-how, learnings, and experience combined with our dedicated tech team truly made this possible,” he added.

Robust Tech Infrastructure to Manage Over 10 Million Users Entering the Queue in 1 Second

Taylor Swift’s Singapore tour tickets were successfully sold thanks in large part to Klook’s strong infrastructure, which was built to manage heavy traffic levels across various locations. Klook’s technology has proven its worth by handling over 10 million concurrent queues of users.

Due to its near real-time capacity management and resource provisioning, the platform really can go even further. This feature enables Klook to dynamically change its system resources to guarantee a continually positive user experience.

How precisely does this operate? Klook’s internal queuing system automatically adjusts its pass-through rate to manage millions of users browsing and carting out around the world by utilizing what is known as a Content Delivery Network (CDN) system combined with Edge Computing technologies, ultimately creating that perfect harmonious blend of stability and queue management.

The outcome? The system can handle over 10 million people queuing up each second, executing thousands of successful transactions per minute, with no problems. That would be the same as quickly selling out a massive 60,000-seat concert venue with joyful ticket holders.

Klook’s ability to manage the spike in demand at peak hours without sacrificing system performance was greatly aided by rigorous load and stress testing. The online platform not only handled the concert ticket sales, but it was also open to all other customers who wanted to browse and reserve any of Klook’s vast selection of over 500,000 activities, hotels, and transportation choices.

In fact, consumers who are making preparations for weekend getaways or plans make Friday one of Klook’s busiest days.

AI-Powered Anti-Fraud System to Ensure a Level Playing Field for Fans

One common problem that frequently troubles customers is the increasing number of ticket scalpers and bots, which has a negative influence on the ticket-buying and concert experience. To address these issues, Klook devised an app-only strategy that assured real fans marked with a unique ID had a fair shot to get tickets, avoiding the need for numerous devices and accounts that may strain the platform.

Klook detects and mitigates suspicious activity by employing AI capabilities in its in-house fraud prevention and security system. Techniques such as device fingerprinting and behavior analysis are used to identify and mitigate suspicious activity.

Moreover, Klook’s powerful system can quickly reject fraudulent orders or subject them to human verifications by attentively scrutinizing user accounts and spotting odd behaviors, providing a safe ticketing process and making it more difficult for sophisticated bots employed by scalpers to function.

These changes improved the entire ticketing experience while helping to level the playing field and guarantee that fans have an equal and fair chance to get their Taylor Swift tickets.

    Revolutionizing Music Tourism

For the top travel platform, these achievements did not happen by chance; they were three years in the making. With the infrastructure for high-traffic events like the concerts of JJ Lin and Jay Chou having developed, Klook already had something to lose.

The entire booking process is being revolutionized by Klook, which brings a fresh perspective to music tourism.  Klook curates and develops value-added packages that go beyond individual tickets by drawing on the company’s experience in a variety of travel-related industries.

To maximize the economic value to the host location, fans can take advantage of multi-day experiences and services that cover all aspects of play (attractions, experiences), stay (hotel stays, staycations), and travel (train, car rental, or transfers).

According to Klook’s analytics, travelers can spend up to four times the face value of their tickets in additional in-destination spending when they attend a concert or other event.

What comes after that? When Swifties who succeeded to secure an Experience package travel to Singapore in March 2024, they may look forward to additional fun activities on Klook. Klook continues to break down barriers and aid visitors in generating greater delight as musical tourism and other forms of experience travel continue to expand.
