New iPad mini Specifications and Features
8.5-inch OLED Display
For the first time, the new iPad mini features an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with thinner bezels. According to Apple, it can reach up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness, which is more than twice the previous generation. It also supports a minimum brightness of 1 nit for use in darker environments.
The nano-texture glass finish, which was said to be loved by iPad Pro users, is also an available option on the iPad mini to help reduce glare. The tablet measures 5.4mm thick and comes in Midnight and Starlight, with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.
Powered by the A20 Pro Chip
The tablet runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built using a 2nm process. According to Apple, it delivers up to 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance and up to 2.7 times the graphics performance compared with the previous generation. This is said to be one of the iPad mini’s biggest upgrades.
The chip also brings improvements for AI-related tasks, with Apple claiming up to 4.5 times faster AI performance. The 512GB model also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine.
Updated Cameras and Connectivity
For photography and video calls, the new iPad mini has a 12MP front camera with Center Stage, positioned along the landscape edge. At the back is a 12MP Wide camera with Smart HDR 4 and 4K video recording at up to 60fps. On the other hand, it also features Acoustic Display for a better audio experience.
Connectivity is handled by Apple’s N1 wireless chip, which adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Cellular models use the C2 modem and support eSIM, with Apple claiming up to 50% faster cellular data than the previous generation.
The tablet also supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C, making it an option for note-taking, drawing, and other creative tasks.
