We should expect laptops this year to be more powerful than the last generations because Intel and AMD just enhancing their processors. At CES 2021, AMD CEO Lisa Su revealed the Ryzen 5000 mobile processors. She claimed that this series is “the most powerful PC processors ever built”. And most of the processors in this series are 7nm “Zen 3” architecture.
The previous Ryzen mobile series has only two categories for two different types of consumers. The U-series is for the average user that does not require a high-powered laptop, this series is also power efficient. While the H-series is for power users or gamers because these are powerful performing processors. The H-series has H and HS suffixes in the 4000 series, but now they add a new HX designation.
The top-tier in U-series is the 8 core 16-thread Ryzen 7 5800U with 1.9GHz clock speed that can boost up to 4.4GHz. The company claimed that this CPU provides “the fastest productivity in ultrathin notebooks.”. Also, this chip can deliver up to 17.5 hours of battery life in normal usage and 21 hours of movie playback. This is maybe the processor only has only 15W TDP.
For the H-series, the top of the line is the Ryzen 9 5980HS, which comes also with 8 cores and 16 threads. But it has a 3.0GHz clock speed that can boost up to 4.8GHz. For these chips, AMD claimed that these are “the fastest mobile processors you can get.”
However, if you are a serious gamer the Ryzen 9 5900HX is the best for your gaming. This is new HX suffix in the H-series is intended for “serious gaming”, AMD said. It also has 8 cores and 16 threads with 3.3GHz clock speed boosting up to 4.8GHz and has 45W+ TDP. This processor may power “2021’s best gaming notebooks.”.
Lisa Sus expects over 150 laptops to feature their new Ryzen 5000 processors. She also expects that releasing those laptop starts this February.
