Canon has unveiled its first EOS R-series models with the smaller-size APS-C imaging sensor, the new EOS R7, and EOS R10.
These new models match Canon’s APS-C and full-frame RF series, allowing you to utilize lenses interchangeably. With that, you can seamlessly upgrade if you do have existing lenses from the previous models.
Canon EOS R7
If you are a hobbyist and general photography enthusiast, the EOS R7 is the best for you. This camera has a 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel AF and sensor sensor-shift image stabilization. It can also shoot 15fps with its mechanical shutter and up to 30fps with its electronic shutter.
The EOS R7 can record 4K 30fps full-width supersampled video or 4K 60fps line-skipped full-width video with a 1.81x crop. You can also shoot HDR PQ video, and 10-bit footage in the C-Log 3 profile.
It also has a 1.62M-dot fully-articulating 3-inch touch screen which is good for content creation. This camera also has dual UHS-II SD card slots on the side. Besides, it still uses LP-E6NH batteries that can provide 660 shots per charge with the EVF enabled.
Canon EOS R10
Next is the cheaper EOS R10, a great mirrorless camera for vloggers out there. This camera features a 24MP APS-C CMOS sensor that also comes with Dual Pixel AF. It can also shoot 15fps with its mechanical shutter like the R7, but only up to 23fps with its electronic shutter.
For video, it can also record oversampled 4K video at 30fps utilizing the entire sensor width, or 4K 60p video with a 1.56x crop. However, the R10 doesn’t come with any stabilization, unlike its brother. It also doesn’t bring any log settings, but it can shoot 10-bit video in HDR PQ mode. For its power source, it comes with an LP-E17 battery pack and PD-E1 USB power adapter.
Canon’s new RF-S lenses
In addition, the company also launched two new RF-S lenses: the RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM and the RF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM. The new APS-C mirrorless lenses have 35mm equivalent focal lengths of 29-72mm and 29-240mm. Since they have built-in optical image stabilization, it is great for doing photography and vlogging as well.
