A group of 48 Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) scholars recently graduated following their training under the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re/Start program in the fast-growing field of cloud computing.
As one of the top integrated energy corporations in the world, Chevron continuously make efforts in contributing to a cleaner, more affordable, and dependable energy. Through the production of natural gas, crude oil, lubricants, additives, petrochemicals, transportation fuels, and innovations, the company aims to attain a more successful and sustainable society.
Having a main goal of lowering the carbon footprint in Chevron’s operations, the company also aims to expand their market including their traditional business lines and turn them into lower carbon businesses.
Just last year, Chevron Philippines Inc. and the representative of the Caltex brand of fuel and lubricants decided to form a collaboration and partnership with Edukasyon.ph in launching a program that specifically reaches and supports the underprivileged youths in the Philippines.
This program provides digital training on cloud computing skills which is under the re/Start program of AWS. As a social organization that uses online platforms to help students find educational opportunities while gaining career knowledge, Edukasyon.ph is greatly necessary for this program to be successful.
In addition to providing them with soft skills training and assistance, CPI also equips young individuals from economically disadvantaged communities with knowledge and abilities in Cloud Foundations, Linux, Cloud Adoption Framework, Databases, and Networking.
For the first time ever, this partnership formally shows Chevron’s extended support for cloud computing skills. Known for its award-winning educational programs like Fuel your School and the Caltex Mentor Program, Chevron establishes this educational program that provides learners with the technical abilities that companies are increasingly looking for in order to create, manage, and optimize cloud infrastructures.
48 out of the 50 eligible students chosen nationwide by Edukasyon.ph were able to wonderfully complete the program with excellence. After graduating with flying colors, the scholars gathered in person for the first time to celebrate their accomplishments.
The top-notcher of the latest graduating batch, Kymberlyn Valbuena, states that she was having doubts at first, thinking that she could be disqualified for the program because of her background. But her experience with AWS re/Start clearly proves the life-changing power of educational opportunities that are accessible and inclusive.
Kymberlyn was surprised in witnessing the program’s openness, variety, organized curriculum, as well as practical laboratories and classes. With the help of CPI and AWS re/Start, she overcame her doubts and fears and successfully became the top student throughout her whole batch.
She also stated, “I truly appreciate and value the program sponsored by Chevron. I did not only gain technology knowledge but also personal skills such as communicating and socializing with other people,”.
The AWS re/Start program is free and is openly offered to all interested learners. The program does not require any technology background to apply as well. After this three-month training course, the students took the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification exam in order to validate and demonstrate their competency.
Following the certification, they were already introduced to over fifteen hiring companies who offered job interviews to the graduates.
