DJI, the global leader in drone technology, has launched its latest drone, the DJI Air 3. The dual camera on the semi-flagship drone sets it different from the Air 2s it replaces and gives it superior picture and video capabilities.
The newly improved DJI Air 3
The DJI Air 3 includes a dual 4K camera system with a wide-angle lens with a 24mm equivalent focal length and an f/1.7 aperture and a medium telephoto lens with a 70mm equivalent focal length and an f/2.8 aperture. Both of these lenses are 1/1.3-inch in size and include dual native ISO support.
While the wide-angle lens only gives a 1-3x zoom range, the medium telephoto lens has a 3-9x zoom range. The DJI Air 2S, which it replaced, has a single 22mm lens with an f/2.8 aperture and a 1-inch CMOS sensor.
In comparison to the Air 2S, the DJI Air 3 has better video capabilities and can capture uncropped, high-frame-rate 4K@100fps and 4K@60fps with HDR, giving viewers a richer visual experience. The Air 2S, on the other hand, can shoot 4K at 60 frames per second or 5.4K at 30.
The Air 3 also offers dual 2.7K vertical shooting in a 4:3 aspect ratio, doing away with the need for post-cropping and exceeding the display capacity of most smartphones.
The omnidirectional vision sensing system is a cutting-edge safety feature included with the drone. With the aid of APAS 5.0, this system can detect obstacles in all directions and maneuver easily over them, assuring a safe flight.
With 10-bit D-Log M and 10-bit HLG compatibility for all lenses, the DJI Air 3 has advanced color modes. With more shadow and highlight data preserved in the 10-bit D-Log M mode, post-processing options are more open.
The 10-bit HLG format, on the other hand, provides a greater dynamic range immediately on HDR-supporting devices, negating the need for post-color grading.
Moreover, the DJI Air 3 is equipped with advanced features such as focus follow for taking outstanding photos and Waypoint Flight for exact flight routes and missions day and night.
Its Night Scene mode allows for excellent 4K@30fps low-light recordings with noise reduction, and it also offers slow motion recording in either 4K/100fps or 1080p/100fps for generating 4x slow-motion films.
A new O4 HD image transmission system with a range of up to 20 kilometers, enhanced stability, and compatibility for 1080p/60fps image transmission is included with the DJI Air 3. Additionally, compared to the Air 2S’s 10.7 m/s, it has a greater wind resistance of 12 m/s.
It is also a bit heavier than the Air 2S (595g vs. 720g) but makes up for it with a ton of extra features and better wind resistance.
Additionally, the Air 3 has a longer battery life, with a maximum flying time of 46 minutes from its 4241mAh battery, a 48% improvement over the previous model. With the help of the new charging hub, power may be collected and moved from many batteries’ remaining capacity to the battery with the largest capacity.
