HONOR Philippines is starting the year with the official reveal of the HONOR X9d 5G, the latest addition to its X Series and its toughest midrange smartphone so far.
Since the X Series launched in the Philippines in 2023, HONOR has built a reputation around durability-focused smartphones. The HONOR X9a 5G gained attention through viral drop tests, while the HONOR X9b 5G pushed limits further by surviving a 50-foot drop.
This momentum continued in January 2025 with the HONOR X9c 5G. It stood out for its Triple-Defense protection, a helicopter drop test, and a Guinness World Record for the most people performing a mobile phone drop test simultaneously.
Now, HONOR is raising the bar once again with the HONOR X9d 5G, putting it through its most extreme durability test yet.
To prove its next level of toughness, the HONOR X9d 5G underwent a high-altitude drop test, marking one of the most aggressive durability demonstrations done on a midrange smartphone.
According to HONOR Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng, the X9d 5G was designed with Filipino users in mind, focusing on durability, innovation, and value. He added that these extreme tests reflect HONOR’s confidence in how the device handles real-life challenges.
And now, the big question remains. Can the HONOR X9d 5G survive an extreme high-altitude drop from a plane?
The Ultimate Phone Drop Challenge: Gian Viterbo VS HONOR X9d 5G
To ensure transparency, HONOR Philippines invited Gadget Pilipinas Editor-in-Chief Gian Viterbo to take part in the challenge. The device was released from an ultralight plane traveling at around 60 km/h.
Viterbo said he agreed to the challenge out of genuine curiosity, fully aware of the risks involved. He admitted he expected the phone to be completely unusable after the drop.
Instead, he was surprised by the result. While he anticipated damage, the device remained functional, and his files were still intact. For him, this showed that durability is not just about surviving impact, but also about protecting what matters most to users.
