A China Judgment Document Network reported that the court released their final decision on the case of Gionee. They found this Chinese smartphone maker guilty of doing illegal control of computer information systems on their devices. According to them, the deliberate insertion of the Trojan horse started between December 2018 until October 2019 that affects more than 20 million phones. In other words, they secretly used this malware to profit from users through unsolicited ads and other malicious activities.
Gionee’s subsidiary has implanted Trojan horse programs into Gionee devices through a software update of the “Story Lock Screen” app. However, this “Dark Horse Program” started rolling out in December 2018 which lasted until October 2019. The report is that the company earned $4.2 million, affects 21.75 million devices while the expenses are estimated at $1.2 million

They found Xu Li, Zhu Ying, Jia Zhengqiang, and Pan Qi guilty of this illegality. Consequently, they will have three to three and six months of imprisonment along with a $30,000 fine.
Not to mention this, but other Chinese smartphone brands are also doing this kind of malicious activity. There is a report that they also found Tecno and Infinix guilty of such illegality.
