Globe Telecom plans to roll out an embedded SIM (eSIM) for its prepaid customers by the end of the third quarter of 2023.
Globe Prepaid eSIM soon!
Smart Communications already released its prepaid eSIM recently and many subscribers were happy especially those with devices that supported eSIM. Finally, Globe will be releasing its prepaid eSIM.
In case you didn’t know, an eSIM, also known as an embedded SIM, is a digital counterpart of a physical SIM card that electronically identifies your device and allows it to connect to the network. It can be remotely modified with software and is included in modern smartphones, so you won’t have to buy a new SIM card if you change phones or cellular providers.
According to Globe, the use of prepaid eSIM offers several advantages including the option to create several profiles on a single device using various mobile numbers. This enables customers to easily switch between lines for different purposes, such as after-office hours, travel, or anything else that fits their lifestyle.
The telecom said in a statement that this is part of its commitment to developing creative solutions, improving consumer mobile experiences, and incorporating sustainability into its products.
“We recognize the opportunity and we can also monetize the convenience that eSIM can give our customers. And it’s also going to restructure the way we operate because there’s less cost, it’s fully Do-It-Yourself. It’s convenient for the customer,” said Darius Delgado, head of Globe’s Consumer Mobile Business.
The eSIM concept takes a step towards more responsible consumption habits by reducing the dependency on physical, plastic SIM cards. This decreases waste generation and logistics.
To recall, Globe started to provide eSIMs to postpaid subscribers in 2018. However, there’s no information about the specific date of Globe’s prepaid eSIM as well as if the TM and GOMO will also have an eSIM.
