Another good mid-range smartphone comes out because Google Pixel 5a with 5G is now official. But is it better than the last year’s Pixel 4a 5G? Let’s find out.
Is the Pixel 5a 5G really an upgrade?
Last year, Google released its Pixel 4a 5G mid-range smartphone. Then early this year, there’s a rumor that its successor, the Pixel 5a 5G is canceled. But today, this new phone is now available for pre-order. Before buying one, you might check what’s the difference between those phones because they are very similar to each other.
Google Pixel 4a 5G and 5a 5G have the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 4G octa-core processor that has Adreno 620 GPU. They also both have 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB internal storage. So, what is their difference?
Instead of a 6.2-inch display, the Pixel 5a 5G has a bigger 6.34-inch FHD+ OLED screen that has 413ppi pixel density. But its screen still has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 cover glass protection.
Moreover, because of its bigger display, it now also comes with a bigger 4,680mAh battery capacity. However, charging is still done via an 18W fast charger, and there is still no wireless charging.
For the camera, the Pixel 5a 5G has a 12.2MP lens main shooter along with 16MP ultra-wide lens. While it still has 8MP for the selfie camera. Google also removed the spectral + flicker sensor on this new model and we don’t know the reason.
Other features of this phone are 5G connectivity, IP67 water and dust resistance, optical + electronic image stabilization, and more. In addition, this phone also comes with a premium metal unibody. Lastly, for its color, it has “Mostly Black” called color, compared to the “Just Black” of its predecessor.
Price and availability
The new Google Pixel 5a with 5G is now available for pre-order on Google Store in the Japan and US. Besides, the price of this phone in the US is USD 449 (around PHP 22.6k). However, we don’t know when this phone will be available in the Philippines but rest assured that there will be a local reseller of this phone.
