In the exciting vivo 3 on 3 Basketball Challenge Grand Finals, which took place on November 18 and 19, 2023, at the Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia, De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) declared themselves the winners.

In an intense competition for the desired championship, twelve strong teams from six universities—Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), University of the Philippines Diliman, Jose Rizal University (JRU), National University, DLS-CSB, and De La Salle University—rumbled for the winner position in the vivo 3 on 3 basketball challenge.
DLS-CSB dominance in Final Round
Benilde B1 and Benilde B2, two formidable teams from DLS-CSB, fought for dominance in the final match. With more than two minutes remaining, Benilde B2 emerged ahead with a winning score of 21-14, securing their title as Grand Champions. Benilde B1 took first place as the runner-up of the game, vivo 3 on 3 basketball challenge. The fierce battle amongst the elite teams was evident when LPU Team B and JRU Team Considerate secured the second and third runner-up positions, respectively.
The event, vivo 3 on 3 basketball challenge has a significant influence on young people, as demonstrated by Allen Bryan Siwag, a 22-year-old DLS-CSB BSBA Export Management student and an important member of the Grand Champion squad. He said, “Sobrang laki ng impact nito para sa mga kabataan, kasi nabibigyan kami ng chance na ma-showcase yung talent namin.”
“Unang una, gusto kong magpasalamat kay God sa blessings na binigay niya, sa CSB community, at sa buong vivo team na nag umpisa ng liga nito kasi sobrang dami naming natutunan. Sana marami pang sumunod na ganitong liga,” Siwag stated, showing appreciation for the event.
A trophy, medals, and the latest technology, vivo V29e 5G, were presented to the four-person Grand Champion team in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the vivo 3 on 3. In the meantime, vivo phones, including the Y27, Y17s, and Y02t, and medals were awarded to the runners-up.
Heartwarming act of kindness
Benilde B1, the first runner-up, showed a touching gesture of generosity. A 20-year-old student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management (BS HRIM), Ralph Vincent Baliquig, revealed that their victory served as a present for their colleague, Irele Galas. “Pinlano talaga namin to, nag work talaga kami kasi yung teammate namin, para sa kanya to. Wala siyang phone. Binigay namin sa kanya lahat,” he stated.
The 21-year-old student of tourism management, Galas, thanked the giver and complimented the vivo Y27 he was given, stating, “Ang ganda po ng bagong phone. Ang ganda ng camera niya.”
Inspiring messages to fellow youth
The comments made by one of the basketball players motivated the young people who watched them play. “Sa mga kabataan na nangangarap na maging basketball player, ituloy niyo lang ang pangarap ninyo. Wala namang hahadlang sa inyo,” Siwag said.
Baliquig went on to say, “Sa mga kabataan na katulad ko, huwag lang kayong huminto sa mga pangarap ninyo. Ituloy ninyo lang ang trabaho. Mag workout kayo palagi. Iwas din kayo sa bisyo.”
The vivo 3 on 3 Basketball Challenge, as an official partner of the National Basketball Association (NBA), is a dedicated program aimed at encouraging development and excitement for the sport in the country, with a special emphasis on engaging and motivating the youth.
In addition to showing remarkable basketball abilities, the Grand Finals also emphasized the participating colleges’ strong sense of collaboration and sportsmanship.
