HONOR Philippines has launched the new HONOR Magic V6 in the Philippines with a price of PHP 119,990. I have been using it for more than two weeks now, and as my first foldable smartphone review, it has given me a very different experience compared to the flagship bar phones I usually use.
I have reviewed several flagship smartphones, and each one has offered something different. But over the past few weeks, a foldable smartphone became part of my daily driver, and honestly, it took some time to get used to the experience.
This is actually my first time reviewing a foldable smartphone, so I had high expectations. I was curious to see how well it would fit into my everyday use and whether having a foldable display could really make a difference in my daily life.
In this review, I want to share my experience with the HONOR Magic V6 and answer one important question: Is it worth buying, especially if this will be your first foldable smartphone?
Display and Multimedia Experience
One of the biggest adjustments when using a foldable smartphone is the larger screen when it is unfolded. Since most of us are already used to traditional bar-shaped smartphones, adapting to a nearly tablet-sized display can initially feel a little unusual.
However, there are definitely times when a bigger screen is useful. Personally, I often use the HONOR Magic V6 to edit graphics in Canva, read articles, and check documents.
The phone features a 6.52-inch cover display and a much larger 7.95-inch inner display. One of the things I really enjoyed was using split-screen mode. The larger display gave me a better multitasking experience, especially when I needed to type something while searching for information at the same time.
The split-screen experience also feels smooth, and you can use up to three windows or apps at once. This gives you more flexibility to maximize the larger display depending on what you need to do.
As I mentioned in my first impressions article, the HONOR Magic V6 has a minimal crease. You can notice it when you tilt the display or run your finger across the screen. However, after using the phone for more than two weeks, I honestly was not bothered by it. Compared to some of its latest foldable competitors, though, the crease is slightly more noticeable.
The display of the HONOR Magic V6 is also great for outdoor use, with support for up to 6,000 nits of peak brightness. That is significantly brighter on paper than some competitors that offer around 3,000 nits. Both displays also support a 120Hz refresh rate and 4,320Hz PWM dimming.
When watching videos, I initially had to adjust to the larger black bars on the inner display due to the screen’s aspect ratio. Still, the overall viewing experience is good. The OLED panel produces vibrant colors, and the display looks sharp and enjoyable for watching videos.
The speaker placement is also well thought out when the phone is unfolded, with one speaker positioned at the top-left and another at the bottom-right. This creates a more immersive stereo effect regardless of the phone’s orientation.
However, I was not particularly impressed with the overall speaker quality. The audio is clear, but I found the bass lacking, with more emphasis on the mids and treble.
Performance and Gaming
As a heavy smartphone user, powerful performance is important to me. Fortunately, the HONOR Magic V6 provides more than enough power for the apps I regularly use and delivers a smooth multitasking experience.
Under the hood, the HONOR Magic V6 is powered by a 3nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 octa-core processor with an Adreno 840 GPU. It is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage.
These are the kinds of specifications we expect from a flagship Android smartphone today. With this hardware, I do not expect the Magic V6 to feel slow anytime soon.
Gaming performance is also good. I had a smooth experience playing games, including the resource-intensive Genshin Impact. The phone does get warm during extended gaming sessions, but based on my experience, it did not become as hot as some traditional bar-shaped flagship phones I have reviewed.
One thing that surprised me, however, was its benchmark performance. The Magic V6 scored under 2 million points on AnTuTu Benchmark, while some other smartphones using the same chipset scored significantly higher or almost double.
This was a bit confusing, especially considering that the real-world performance of the phone was still smooth and reliable.
Software Experience
The HONOR Magic V6 runs MagicOS 10 based on Android 16, and the overall software experience feels lightweight and smooth. I also really like the user interface and how well the software works with the foldable form factor.
One feature that stood out to me is its cross-platform file-sharing capability.
I use both an iPhone and a MacBook, and Apple devices are usually quite restrictive when it comes to sharing files with other platforms. With the HONOR Magic V6, however, I can transfer files more easily between the phone, my iPhone, and my MacBook through its support for AirDrop and Quick Share compatibility.
This functionality may eventually become available on other Android smartphones, but the Magic V6 already offers it now.
It is not as fast as transferring files directly between two Apple devices through AirDrop, but it is still fast enough and much more convenient than many other file-sharing options. The phone also provides access to iCloud, allowing users to sign in through the File Manager.
HONOR Philippines has not yet announced the official software support period for the HONOR Magic V6. However, if it follows the same support policy as the HONOR Magic V5, it could receive up to seven years of major OS updates and security patches.
Battery and Charging
Battery life is one of the HONOR Magic V6’s strong points.
It has a large 6,660mAh battery, which is impressive considering that I often use the phone with its larger inner display unfolded. Based on my experience, it can easily last an entire day with normal to moderately heavy use.
There were still occasions when I had to charge it twice a day, especially during days with extremely heavy usage or extended gaming sessions. However, considering the size of the display and the performance it offers, the battery life is generally very good.
Charging is also fast, thanks to 80W HONOR SuperCharge support. For a smartphone with a battery capacity of more than 6,600mAh, 80W charging is already quite fast.
This combination of a large battery and fast charging makes the HONOR Magic V6 a practical option for professionals and users who rely heavily on their smartphones throughout the day.
Camera Performance
When it comes to cameras, the HONOR Magic V6 appears to have a similar setup to the HONOR Magic V5. It features a 50MP main camera, 64MP telephoto camera, 50MP ultra-wide camera, and two 20MP selfie cameras.
I did not necessarily expect the Magic V6 to deliver class-leading camera performance, but after using it, I can say that its cameras are actually good.
Photos taken with the rear cameras have good detail and sharpness. One thing I did not like, however, is that the 2x zoom appears to rely on digital zoom, while the telephoto lens is used starting at 3x zoom. The results are still decent, but you can slightly notice the difference in detail because of the digital processing.
Color reproduction is also good, with generally accurate and natural-looking colors. The camera also handles shadows and highlights well.
In low-light situations, the phone struggles a little when there are very few available light sources. However, when there is enough ambient lighting, the camera can still produce good results.
The two 20MP selfie cameras, on the other hand, are not as impressive. Images can look a little soft and lack the sharpness and detail I expected, even with beautification and filters turned off.
Fortunately, the Magic V6 allows you to use its Live View feature, so you can use the main rear camera setup when taking selfies. This gives you significantly better image quality for self-portraits.
For videos, the HONOR Magic V6 can record at up to 4K@60fps. Its image stabilization is also decent. This makes it a capable device for content creators or anyone who wants to capture high-quality videos for social media.
Verdict
The HONOR Magic V6 delivers powerful performance, high-quality displays, smooth multitasking, and reliable battery life for heavy daily use.
Its large inner display is especially useful for productivity, whether for multitasking, editing, reading, or using multiple apps at once. The camera performance is also good, particularly for photos and portrait mode.
As a first-time foldable smartphone user, the Magic V6 gave me a great experience and helped me understand the appeal of this form factor. While there are areas for improvement, including the crease, speaker quality, and selfie cameras, these did not significantly affect my overall experience.
I would recommend it to professionals and content creators who can maximize its large display and multitasking features. It is also a good option for Apple users who want easier connectivity with devices such as the iPhone and MacBook.
At PHP 119,990, the HONOR Magic V6 is a significant investment, but if you can take full advantage of its productivity features, powerful hardware, and foldable display, it is definitely worth considering.
