Because of the high demands of smartphones this year, it shows that Mediatek is truly rising because of their affordable yet decent chips. Then for the first time, MediaTek became the top smartphone chipset maker this Q3 2020. It is because they have the biggest share for Q3 2020.
According to Counterpoint’s estimation, MediaTek has a 31% market share in Q3 2020 as smartphone sales are booming. It is because most of the best-selling popular phone features their Helio G35, Helio G85, and HelioG90T. Their powerful performing chipset in the $100-$250 price range and growth in major regions like China and India helped them to become the biggest smartphone chipset vendor. By this, MediaTek beat Qualcomm for the first time by having a 2% lead.
However, 39% of 5G phones sold worldwide are Qualcomm chipsets that make Qualcomm the biggest 5G vendor in Q3 2020. Also, they expect that one-third of smartphone shipments in Q4 2020 will be 5G enabled. Because of that, there’s still a chance for Qualcomm to regain the top position in Q4 2020 because of their 5G chipsets.
