MediaTek is not yet done unveiling new products because today, they introduced its new Pentonic 2000 chipset for Smart TVs.
MediaTek Announces New Pentonic Smart TV Family
The new Pentonic 2000 is one of their Pentonic Smart TV series that comes with incredible features. It is the world’s first commercial TV chip built on TSMC’s N7 (7nm-class) technology. The chip’s built-in high-performance MediaTek APU (AI processor) enables MediaTek’s revolutionary 8K AI-Super Resolution technology. It will automatically upscale lower-resolution content to the display’s native resolution while also improving image quality in real-time.
Moreover, this chip supports 8K 120Hz screens and can handle 144Hz for gaming PC systems and consoles from the 9th generation. Consumers are also able to have multiple apps open and stream from different sources simultaneously, thanks to MediaTek’s Intelligent View technology.
The Pentonic 2000 also features the TV industry’s fastest CPU and GPU with ultra-wide memory bus and ultra-fast UFS 3.1 storage. Manufacturers are also able to utilize MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E or 5G cellular modems to deliver the fastest wireless internet access. That is for better 8K video streaming or up to several streamed sources presented at once.
It is also the first commercial 8K TV chip to support Versatile Video Coding (VVC) H.266 media and Dolby’s latest imaging and audio technologies. Lastly, the chip also supports AV1 for streaming services and all global TV broadcast standards including the latest ATSC 3.0.
Micron and MediaTek First to Validate LPDDR5X
Moreover, Micron also announced today that MediaTek has validated their LPDDR5X DRAM for MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9000 5G flagship chipset. Micron is the first semiconductor manufacturer to sample and validate the fastest and most advanced LPDDR5X memory. They are also the earliest to send the first batch of LPDDR5X samples based on their first-to-market 1 (1-alpha) node. This LPDDR5X reached 8.533Gb/s provides up to 33% faster performance than previous-generation LPDDR5.
“Our mobile customers are increasingly demanding higher bandwidth to support complex, data-hungry applications built for the 5G era. With its superfast mobile memory, Micron’s LPDDR5X squarely meets this challenge for flagship devices,” said JC Hsu, corporate vice president and general manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit at MediaTek. “The Dimensity 9000 will be the first to support this critical advancement of LPDDR5X, giving carriers and device-makers the capabilities they need to deliver incredible 5G experiences at the flagship tier.”
Micron started partnering with the world’s leading smartphone and chipset manufacturers to promote ecosystem innovation with LPDDR5X. However, the new Dimensity 9000 mobile SoC from MediaTek will be the first to enable LPDDR5X memory. This combination will provide an industry-leading peak bandwidth of 60 gigabytes per second for high-end and flagship handsets.
