MSI, Micro-Star International, publicly declares its participation in the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), signing up for the commitment aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement and the steadfast 1.5°C carbon reduction pledge upheld at recent United Nations Climate Conference of the Parties. Starting from within, MSI joins hands with suppliers and customers to establish a low-carbon value chain, collectively striving to mitigate the impacts of global climate change.
SBTi was jointly launched and established by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It follows internationally recognized climate scenarios to calculate the carbon reduction pathways that companies or organizations should achieve. SBTi also develops relevant methodologies, tools, guidelines, and provides technical guidance. After a company submits an application, it undergoes expert review before the targets are finalized.
Currently, around 8% of MSI’s total power generation comes from renewable energy sources. In the future, MSI plans to increase the proportion of self-generated renewable energy in accordance with regional regulations or market maturity. This could involve signing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with electricity providers for renewable energy procurement, aimed at maximizing the efficiency of green energy use within the group and reducing Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Additionally, MSI intends to conduct a comprehensive Scope 3 GHG inventory and set Scope 3 reduction goals, collaborating with key suppliers to transition towards low-carbon production.
In response to the Financial Supervisory Commission’s sustainable development path, MSI has initiated GHG inventory operations for its global subsidiaries. This ensures control over carbon emissions across all operational and sales points, facilitating group-wide reduction in GHG emissions.
“We are well aware of the challenges posed by climate change and firmly believe that at this critical juncture, businesses must play an active role in collaborating with the global community to mitigate its impact. Through our products and services, we are dedicated to supporting the green economy and long-term sustainable development. We are committed to integrating various ESG issues into our operations and corporate culture, contributing more to a sustainable future,” said Bob Tsai, MSI Director of Sustainability Office.
