Globe Telecom Inc. has requested the National Telecommunications Commission to monitor its SIM registration portal for a maximum of 72 hours (about 3 days) starting on Tuesday to ensure that any patches applied are technically stable.
Globe Optimizing SIM Registration Portal for Better Customer Experience
In order to provide its clients with a better registration experience, Globe previously stated that it temporarily blocked access to its SIM registration page new.globe.com.ph/simreg.
“These issues prompted Globe to take proactive measures to make the site temporarily inaccessible as customer data security is paramount and any problem detected is treated with the utmost severity,” Globe said in a statement at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, the first day of the SIM registration mandated by the SIM Registration Act.
“In light of this development, Globe has requested the NTC for a maximum of 72 hours from today to observe our SIM registration portal to ensure all patches made are technically stable,” it added.
To put the security of its customers’ data first, Globe stated that it fully accepts responsibility for the steps it took and was ready to face any appropriate regulatory penalty.
Given this unusual and massive IT deployment, Globe requests its customers’ patience and understanding. Globe wants to assure its consumers that it is working hard to develop a secure and safe SIM registration platform that offers them a positive digital experience.
Moreover, Globe reported that it had been able to register 20,000 new customers before the service became unreachable. For its 87.9 million customers, Globe is committed to making SIM registration simple and convenient.
The fact that we may have minor vulnerabilities in our microsite that need to be carefully patched to prevent any severe danger to consumer data, however, is very disappointing.
“We take this very seriously hence even minor issues are given utmost attention. This happened despite all the preparation, technical tests, and due diligence we have conducted,” it added.
The registration period for all Globe Prepaid, TM, Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi, Globe Mobile WiFi, and Globe Business prepaid subscribers ends on April 26, 2023.
Globe customers who have trouble accessing digital or online platforms, are using the feature or basic phones, or don’t have access to the internet will be able to register on-site with assistance starting in February 2023. Registration through the Globe One app will start in January 2023.
Furthermore, the Globe registration portal already includes the data and details of current Globe Postpaid, Globe Platinum, and Globe Business postpaid clients. To make sure that the customer information complies with the law, Globe will contact these consumers to confirm and complete their registration data.
In the struggle against fraudsters who utilize anonymous SIM cards for unlawful operations, the SIM Registration Act is a major development. This adds a degree of security and safety for the clients.
Also, the law supports Globe’s continued initiatives to fight fraud, including its investment in filtering systems, proactive banning of spam and scam SMS, and collaboration with banks and other financial institutions to share data.
