A budget smartphone designed for music lovers? Nubia Philippines has you covered with the recent launch of Nubia Music, featuring dual headphone jacks and a very loud stereo speaker.
Nubia Philippines sent us a review unit, and we’ve already uploaded an unboxing video on our Facebook page. In this article, we’ll share our first impressions of nubia Music.Â
Unboxing this device is very straightforward, and I want to commend the company for its excellent packaging, especially considering the phone costs under PHP 4,000.
However, you’ll notice that the box includes a plastic screen protector, and I’m not sure why it wasn’t pre-installed.
Design and Build Quality
I loved the fancy design of the Nubia Music, which makes it eye-catching and far from cheap-looking. They call it the Classic Vinyl Record Player design, emphasizing its music-centric characteristics. Its glossy glass-like casing is a total smudge magnet but it is not noticeable because of its colorful pattern.
You can choose Pop Art or Zeal Orange colorway, but I prefer Pop Art because it suits more for music. The zeal orange one looks quite simple, with the entire back colored orange, and it only features white dot patterns.
For the input and output, there is a hybrid SIM tray on the left while the volume rockers and power button/fingerprint scanner are located on the right. At the bottom, there is only a USB-C port and a microphone, while at the top, there is a dual 3.5mm earphone jack.
It also features a large camera island, accommodating a big speaker that supports DTS:X Ultra. This speaker is claimed to have up to 600% volume or up to 95dB, and we will test this in our review to evaluate the sound quality. I heard that it also has a built-in FM antenna so you can listen to the radio anytime.Â
Next to the speaker is a 50MP AI dual-camera setup that boasts 12 scene recognition modes, while the front features a 5MP selfie camera.
Its overall design is attractive and seems durable, though it is relatively heavy due to the aluminum frame.
Display
The nubia Music also has a large 6.6-inch display that has HD+ resolution. This budget phone also supports a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 16 Million colors.
If you watched our unboxing video, you must have noticed that the phone’s display is actually decent. However, if you’re used to FHD+ resolution, you may need to adjust your expectations regarding its display quality.Â
Like other entry-level and midrange phones, this one features a Dynamic Island, also known as Live Island. It integrates multiple useful functions, offering a new interactive experience with features such as battery status, countdown timer, voice recording, earbuds connection, phone calls, flashlight, and music.
What’s inside the nubia Music?
I was also surprised by the hardware of the nubia Music because it has a 28nm Unisoc SC9863A octa-core chipset paired with an IMG8322 GPU. While this chipset isn’t the most powerful, it provides decent performance for handling everyday tasks effectively.
Additionally, it is equipped with 4GB RAM and supports RAM expansion features of up to 4GB Virtual RAM for smoother multitasking performance. Meanwhile, you can also store a lot of music and apps on this device since it already features a large 128GB internal storage. This phone already runs MyOS 13 based on Android 13 out of the box.
Lastly, it also boasts a large 5,000mAh battery capacity that is claimed to provide us with up to 150 hours of music playback with earphones, and up to 48 hours on the speaker. Nubia Philippines hasn’t specified the supported charging speed in watts, but the included power adapter is only 10W.
