According to recent rumors from China, Nvidia could be bidding farewell to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti after three iterations and almost two and a half years of service.
This once top-performing graphics card has allegedly reached the declining phase of its product life cycle.
With its launch price set at $399 in 2020, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti has been a reliable choice for budget-conscious gamers seeking value for their money.
Despite never dominating the Steam Hardware Survey or best-selling graphics card charts, this Ampere-based card has managed to stay relevant and hold a prominent position, usually ranking among the top ten, even with the latest graphics card releases.
Despite not achieving the same level of success as Nvidia’s seven-year-old GeForce GTX 1060, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti was still a crucial SKU for the chipmaker. In fact, Nvidia went on to refresh the graphics card twice in 2020, highlighting its significance. The first refresh involved a simple die swap from the original GA104 silicon to the GA103 silicon, resulting in the creation of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103. Shortly after, Nvidia upgraded the GDDR6 memory of the GeForce RTX 3060 to faster GDDR6X chips, which led to the second refresh. However, neither the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GA103 nor the GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X delivered any noticeable performance improvements.
News of the potential discontinuation of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti was first reported on China’s Board Channels forum, where retailers and distributors often share industry-related updates. While some rumors on the forum have proven to be true, not all of them are reliable. Therefore, we advise exercising caution when considering this information.
According to the rumor, Nvidia plans to discontinue production of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, but the original post on the forum did not provide a specific timeline. It’s believed that Nvidia will inform its partners to sell off any remaining stock of the graphics card. However, the poster speculated that retailers would require several months to exhaust their inventories.
The rumors of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti’s discontinuation carry some weight, especially since the rumored release of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is said to be imminent. While the leaked specifications for the Ada Lovelace graphics card may not be impressive, it is expected to provide a significant generational upgrade over the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is rumored to be available in both 8GB and 16GB variants and is expected to launch alongside the GeForce RTX 4060 before the end of this month. If the rumors are accurate, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB model should hit the retail market on May 24, while the 16GB variant is purportedly scheduled for a second-half launch in July.
