Huawei is known for its powerful Kirin chipsets. As we all know that Huawei has been banned by the US government. Recently, it was reported that Huawei will no longer be using HiSilicon Kirin chipsets anymore since TSMC, their chip manufacturer, uses parts that come from the US. And because of this, The Huawei Mate 40 series could be the last Kirin-powered smartphones from the brand.
But these past few months, Qualcomm is applying for a license to supply chipsets to Huawei. This week, it is confirmed that Qualcomm’s application has been approved. Therefore, we will see Snapdragon-powered Huawei smartphones in the future.
In recent reports revealed that the US government granted permission to Intel, AMD, Sony, Samsung Display, and others to continue business with Huawei. Thus, there can be a possibility that TSMC may continue to produce chips for Huawei. But for now, it shows that Huawei will just use Qualcomm’s chipsets.
