Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is expanding its 5G network capacity in key areas of Siargao Island as the Philippines hosts its first World Surf League Championship Tour event at Cloud 9 in General Luna.
The network enhancements aim to support the expected increase in mobile data demand as international surfing athletes, media practitioners, content creators, and spectators gather on the island for the competition, which runs until November 10.
As the event’s official telecommunications partner, Smart is building on its existing 5G coverage across key locations in General Luna, including Cloud 9, Siargao Airport, and Siargao Seaport. The company is also enhancing connectivity in other strategic areas to support residents, tourists, and local businesses.

“Siargao is an important tourism destination, and we are committed to supporting its continued growth through reliable connectivity,” said Lloyd R. Manaloto, First Vice President and officer-in-charge of Smart.
Beyond the surfing competition, the network improvements aim to support everyday digital activities across the island. These include making digital payments, booking accommodations and transportation, communicating online, and sharing travel experiences.
Smart Offers Unli 5G Packages for Visitors
Visitors attending the WSL Championship Tour can access select Smart Unli 5G offers, which include unlimited 5G data and non-stop 4G data, starting at ₱90 for three days.
Smart also offers Postpaid Plans with its Device Link feature, allowing subscribers to share their primary mobile number and plan with a compatible smartwatch. This enables calls, texts, and mobile data access even when their iPhone is not nearby.
Additionally, Smart subscribers who avail of select offers at designated Smart booths and partner stores in Siargao may receive freebies.
The latest network enhancements form part of Smart’s continued investment in mobile connectivity across the Philippines. The company also recently received recognition from global network intelligence firm Ookla for Best Mobile Latency and Best Mobile Video Experience.
With the international surfing competition bringing more visitors to Siargao, Smart aims to support the island’s growing tourism industry and connectivity needs beyond the event.
