Smart Communications, Inc. the first to launch the 5G network in the Philippines has reached more than 3000 5G sites as of May.
The telco now started to expand the 5G network to far-flung and mountainous areas like Brgy. Linut-od in Argao in Cebu. With that, it enables dialysis patients like Elena Camson to get telemedicine services.
“I used to have to go to the town for check-ups when there was still no signal here,” said Camson. In addition, Brgy. Linut-od is 23 kilometers from town. Camson, who has an end-stage renal illness, said she had to go to a nearby neighborhood simply to get a ride to the clinic.
“A strong network is a huge help for us especially for telemedicine,” said Dr. Stanley Caminero, Argao’s community doctor, whom Camson consults with regularly. “Instead of traveling to town, patients can consult virtually via Smart 5G.”
Moreover, Caminero also mentioned that 5G network allows for the transmission of high-quality video. For instance, it allows doctors like him to grasp what their patients are trying to say right away. “We can assure quality service and accurate diagnosis for our patients,” he said.

“Our accelerated 5G rollout is part of our continuous efforts to upgrade and expand our network, ensuring that we deliver the best data experience to our customers in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” he added.
In fact, Smart now reached more than 3000 5G sites including Batangas, Pampanga, Bacolod, Boracay, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Pangasinan, and Quezon. Previously, they reached 2700 5G sites as of May 15, up from 2,340 in April. We can see that they quickly expanding the 5G network to our country.
