Sony today unveiled a new line of first-party console skins for the PlayStation 5 as well as three new colors for the DualSense controller.
New galaxy-inspired colorways
The console covers come in five new colors to match all the galaxy-inspired DualSense wireless controllers: Galactic Purple, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, Cosmic Red, and Midnight Black. These are all stand-alone products that you can purchase separately. It means you can replace it with the default white covers.Â
Both the PS5 with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and the PS5 Digital Edition will be available with console covers. However, white is still the only color option when purchasing a PS5 console.
According to Sony, these new console covers are easy to put without needing any tools. You can just simply remove the original white PS5 console covers by sliding them off and replacing them with the new ones. Removing the covers also gives you access to the SSD slot, which allows you to upgrade your storage.
Sony has also released DualSense controllers in Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple to match the new covers. These join the current Cosmic Red and Midnight Black variants, which have released in May. You now have six color choices in addition to the normal white.
The Midnight Black and Cosmic Red covers will be available in January 2022 in the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines.
Moreover, the Nova Pink, Galactic Purple, and Starlight Blue covers will be available in the first half of 2022 in the abovementioned regions. Other countries will receive them later in the year.
The new DualSense controller colors will be available starting January 14, 2021. Starting February 18, they will be available at other partnering shops.
Sony has not yet announced the price for these new wireless controllers and console covers.Â
