In this technology-dependent era, where almost everything we need to do involves internet connection, the Philippines remains to be one of the countries that seems to be left behind in terms of fast internet. However, Starlink appears to have the potential to greatly increase internet availability especially in remote locations.Â
Here are the common FAQ’s (frequently asked questions) for Starlink Philippines as of March 03, 2023.Â
Elon Musk, the well-known CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has come up with a new method of providing internet access. Elon Musk founded the Internet service provider Starlink as a part of his SpaceX company, aiming to bring Internet access to remote or underdeveloped locations and serve as a backup for the current infrastructure.
However, as opposed to wired/Fiber connectivity, connectivity may occasionally be poor due to the wireless/satellite infrastructure. Therefore, unless the existing infrastructure is much worse, it is advisable to use wired connectivity instead of Starlink, if it’s available.
You must acquire a Starlink Kit, which costs Php 29,320, in order to use Starlink (VAT Inclusive, Shipping, Taxes and Customs Fee Included).

For consumer purchases, there is ONLY ONE OFFICIAL WAY, and that is at Starlink.Â
There are some “resellers” out there, but doing business with them puts your safety at risk. However, if you choose the RV Plan, please be aware that there is a process for kit transfers, and it might not be available to transfer the kit to another individual.Â
You can use credit and debit cards to pay for your kits and monthly fee. A VISA, MasterCard, or American Express card is required. On the other hand, debit cards with a local only logo (such as Bancnet alone, without the VISA, MC, or AMEX logo) cannot be used.
You may quickly obtain a Debit Visa/MC card and start a digital bank account. You can choose from Maya, Tonik Digital Bank, GoTyme, CIMB, and Uno Bank, among others. You can choose to utilize your current banks, but make sure to allow Internet/Online payment to ensure smooth payments. Be aware that extra bank costs occasionally apply if Starlink chooses to use their in-house foreign payment provider rather than Paymongo.
Due to order backlogs and customs/NTC permits, it often takes 2-4 weeks. However, some states that it took about 9 days to receive the first batch.
There are no contracts at all. But, because there are no contracts or any agreements, Starlink is free to impose any new costs as they see fit. Just like what happened in the US, prices vary by location according to whether there is overcapacity there.
At any given time, it varies between 50 and 200Mbps. Given that it is a wireless/satellite connection, this is not guaranteed and may vary based on if there are any nearby obstructions. There is currently no data limitation, capping, or throttling in effect for the Philippines, however, this could still change.
