Smartphone chipsets nowadays becoming more powerful and faster, which means they are also getting hotter. With that, Xiaomi introduces its latest Loop LiquidCool technology that will bring extra cooling efficiency.
Xiaomi’s latest Loop LiquidCool technology
This new technology has double the cooling capacity of traditional vapor chamber technologies and is the most efficient smartphone cooling option. It uses an annular heat pipe system comprised of an evaporator, a condenser, a refill chamber, plus gas and liquid pipes. The gas and airflow are again dispersed to the condenser, where the gas condenses back into liquid. Then tiny fibers will absorb and collect water in the refill chamber, which refills the evaporator and makes the system self-sustaining.
If you notice, this new technology uses the same tech method as the VC liquid cooling. However, the new form factor significantly improves efficiency. Typical VC systems lack distinct routes for gases and liquids, hot gas and cold liquids mix and block each other.
The ring-shaped pump has a particular gas pipe design that minimizes air passage resistance by 30%. With having smoother steam flow, it can increase the maximum heat transfer capacity up to 100%.
Moreover, implementing a Tesla valve structure within the refill chamber is critical to ensuring one-way high-efficiency circulation. A Tesla valve is a one-way valve that allows liquid to flow through the evaporator. At the same time, it prevents gases from flowing in the wrong direction. Indeed, this improves the efficiency of gas/liquid circulation throughout the system.
Xiaomi tried to replace the original vapor chamber of its MIX 4 with the new Loop LiquidCool Technology solution. They played Genshin Impact set at max video settings and get 60fps for about 30 minutes. It kept the device below a maximum temperature of 47.7 Celsius while the processor gets 8.6 Celsius lower than usual.
The flexible form factor allows for the incorporation and stacking of Loop LiquidCool Technology into any kind of interior design. It means it will allow more space for the battery, camera module, and more, thanks to the Tesla valve structure.
Lastly, Xiaomi plans to use Loop LiquidCool Technology in its devices in H2 2022. So, stay tuned!
