Internet access has accelerated procedures in every business, so it is not surprising how this has influenced our environment. Internet service providers (ISPs) are now in the lead to consistently provide users with higher speeds and excellent connectivity.

However, this would not be simple, as Filipinos continue to express frustration with the country’s almost regular incidents of internet service interruptions.

Even in the Senate, a bill was submitted that sought to alter Section 20 of the Public Telecommunications Policy Act. Senate Bill 2074 aims to make it mandatory for public telecommunications enterprises (PTEs) to reimburse customers for interruptions in their internet and telephone service.

Additionally, it strives to make sure that customers receive value for the money spent on the internet services they have purchased.

Jason Lim, Country Manager at Vertiv Philippines, acknowledges this challenge for ISPs. “Internet service providers bear the huge responsibility of spearheading the prevention of infrastructure downtime and ensuring uninterrupted services for their consumers. But that does not mean these repeated cases of internet interruption and outages will persist. It is high time for ISPs to address this growing concern before it becomes detrimental to users and their services,” Lim said.

Vertiv highlights three important actions that ISPs may take to future-proof their infrastructure and protect the network against disruptions:

    Create proactive capacity planning.

ISPs need to make sure their networks are capable of meeting the rising bandwidth demand. ISPs may evaluate network use, locate performance bottlenecks, and efficiently control traffic levels by doing network capacity planning. This guarantees end users access to services and improves declining network performance.

Proper planning for maintenance and updates.

ISPs must do regular maintenance and service updates to maintain their infrastructure updated and offer the best solutions to consumers. They should, however, carefully plan the maintenance so as not to compromise the dependability of the network. ISPs should also make an effort to do all maintenance tasks within the allotted timeframe and send end consumers transparency reports.

Scale up data centers to accommodate growing demand.

ISPs must scale up their data centers if they want to lessen infrastructure disruptions. To fulfill the rising needs for storage, processing power, and connectivity, it is necessary to increase data centers’ capacity and capabilities. ISPs may scale up to handle the rising data traffic, increase redundancy for greater backup, update connections, improve cooling and power infrastructure, and adopt cutting-edge technology.

Buying a suitable uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is one of the steps they may take to scale up. A modular high-density transformer-free UPS with remarkable capabilities for mission-critical applications, the Vertiv Liebert APM Plus is offered by Vertiv. Its modular, scalable design and twofold conversion efficiency guarantee operational cost savings, lowering the total cost of ownership and having less negative impact on the environment.

Besides, it is entirely compatible with today’s key IT loads and may save up to 50% more space than outdated systems, both of which are essential for ISPs to satisfy consumer expectations.

Prepare a robust disaster recovery plan.

Natural catastrophes or cyber-attacks, for example, might have a significant impact on an ISP’s infrastructure. While ISPs cannot completely avoid such disasters, they may mitigate their impact by having a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy in place. To ensure infrastructure uptime, Internet service providers should invest in dependable software, hardware, and third-party services.

It is crucial in today’s society to provide a strong and trustworthy internet infrastructure. ISPs must adopt these preventative steps to address the problem of internet interruptions and outages. As the need for faster speeds and seamless connectivity grows, ISPs must meet the challenge. Consumer happiness suffers and advancement in all industries is slowed down if this isn’t done.

Vertiv is also available to support the expansion of internet connections and the creation of a resilient online environment as Architects of ContinuityTM. To promote economic progress, the organization provides cutting-edge, sustainable, and creative solutions for service providers.
