Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), Chairman, President, and CEO of PLDT, recently announced that Cignal would soon offer Broadband services in the country through its Broadband over Satellite service.

According to MVP’s tweet, Cignal will launch these new broadband services on May 15, 2021. The tweet included “Internet available everywhere” so this will be a great innovation to our internet industry since it has many benefits.

It can benefit areas from our country that has limited access to the internet because of lacking land-based networks. With this satellite service, you can access the internet wherever you are in the Philippines.

However, in December, Smart Communications, Inc. has tapped Cignal TV, Inc. to provide satellite broadband services. Besides, BusinessWorld also reported that Smart will use Cignal’s very small aperture terminal (VSAT) technology. That is to deliver services to customers in regions with little to no network coverage.

Cignal mentioned that Smart’s VSAT services are available in the Philippines, including Batanes and some areas in Palawan and Tawi-Tawi.

As of the writing, there’s no pricing and other information yet. So, stay tuned!
