The Dota 2 community has been eagerly anticipating the announcement of the next International tournament, and the wait is finally over.Â
Valve has confirmed that TI12 will be held in Seattle this October 2023. As the largest and most prestigious tournament in the Dota 2 calendar, TI is the ultimate stage for teams to showcase their skills and compete for the multi-million dollar prize pool.
The Dota 2 International tournament has been held annually since 2011, with the first six events being held in Seattle. The tournament was originally held in the Benaroya Hall, before moving to the KeyArena in 2014. In 2017, the tournament was held in the newly built Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, before moving to the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China in 2019.
Fans of Dota 2 will be thrilled to hear that TI12 will be returning to its roots in Seattle, the birthplace of the tournament. Seattle has been the spiritual home of Dota 2 since the game’s inception, and the community is sure to provide a warm welcome to the competing teams and fans alike.
The tournament will take place over the course of two weeks in October, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed. The format of the tournament is also yet to be announced, but it is likely to follow a similar format to previous TIs, with a group stage followed by a double-elimination playoff bracket.
The prize pool for TI12 is expected to be even larger than previous years, with the Dota 2 community contributing to the prize pool through in-game purchases. The prize pool for TI11 reached over $40 million, with the winning team taking home over $18 million. It will be interesting to see if the Dota 2 community can surpass this figure and set a new record for esports prize pools.
“This year, the group stage kicks off on Saturday, October 14th, with the playoffs to follow. Both of these events will run under one banner, The Road to the International, which we’ll be talking more about in the coming weeks.”
“The International itself will commence on Friday, October 27th and run through Sunday, October 29th.”
