You will now have an additional charge when buying Smart and Talk n’ Text load in GCash since they recently added a 2% convenience fee.
GCash now added 2% convenience fee for Smart Load
A lot of us today uses E-wallets like GCash in a lot of our transaction such as paying bills, sending money, bank transfer, and of course, buying load. Using GCash for buying loads is very convenient because you don’t now have to go to your nearest load retail store. What if it now has a convenience fee?
Smart and Talk n’ Text users noticed weeks before that GCash now has an additional 2% convenience fee when buying a load. We can also notice the additional PHP 1 to PHP 2 charge per transaction when availing of a promo.
GCash still has not yet posted any official announcement about these newly added convenience fees. However, we saw a reply from GCash reply in Twitter saying “Due to increasing trade prices, a convenience fee will be applied to Smart and TNT Buy Load products effective Nov 16.”
As of writing, Globe, TM, DITO SIM, GOMO, as well as Cherry Prepaid are not affected by the 2% convenience fee. We don’t have any information yet if GCash also plans to add a convenience fee to the said networks above.
Fortunately, GCash competitor, Maya is not adding any convenience fee when buying a load of any network.
I also just want to inform you that a lot of load promos also got a price increase. For example, in GOMO UNLI DATA as well as their 30GB No Expiry promo that got PHP 100 increase. From PHP 499 and 299, they are now PHP 599 and 399, respectively. Besides, Smart UNLI DATA 599 and UNLI FAM 999 also got PHP 100 increase.
