HONOR Philippines just launched the new HONOR 400 Pro 5G for only PHP 32,999! They sent us a review unit, and we already tested it for a while, so here’s our full review of this phone.
By the way, I already shared my first impressions of the HONOR 400 Pro 5G in case you haven’t seen it yet.
Display and Multimedia Experience
Firstly, the display of the HONOR 400 Pro 5G is a pleasure. It boasts a large 6.7-inch AMOLED quad-curved screen with a 2800×1280 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 3,840Hz PWM dimming, HDR support, and up to 5,000 nits max brightness.
The display quality feels premium. I really enjoyed watching videos and browsing on this phone because it delivers an excellent viewing experience. It offers vibrant colors and crisp details.
I have no issues encountered with its high refresh rate, as my scrolling is smooth and the animations are seamless. The screen also remains easy to view even under bright sunlight, thanks to its high brightness support.
In addition, it comes with dual stereo speakers that sound great. The audio is well-balanced, offering just the right amount of bass and clear highs without being too piercing.
Camera Performance
Next, let’s talk about the cameras. One of my favorite features of HONOR’s Number Series has always been the camera, and the HONOR 400 Pro 5G is no exception. In my opinion, this phone truly stands out in the midrange category when it comes to camera performance.
The rear camera setup of HONOR 400 Pro 5G consists of a 200MP AI main camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), a 50MP Sony IMX856 telephoto lens with OIS, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Meanwhile, its front camera has a 50MP wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor.
Starting with selfies, its front camera produced detailed and high-quality outputs. The skin tone is mostly accurate, while other colors are vibrant. I suggest using Portrait mode if you want enhanced selfies, as it delivers more pronounced details. Besides, its bokeh effect is also clean most of the time. The normal mode is also great, especially when you need to use the 0.8x wide zoom.
The rear camera captures images with DSLR-like quality, notably in portrait shots. I love how it processes and improves the vibrancy of the colors. Even in a slightly dimly lit environment, it is still able to deliver great details and sharpness, unlike others that look like paint or mushy.
While zooming, it is also great for capturing distant subjects since it has a dedicated telephoto lens. It can shoot up to 50x zoom, and it has an AI Super Zoom feature that upscales the image to make it detailed and clear. This telephoto lens also helps enhance the quality in portrait mode.
Speaking of portraits, the device also features Harcourt Portrait filters, which were first introduced in the HONOR 200 series. These filters add an artistic, studio-like quality to your shots, offering a significant upgrade over standard portrait mode. While most of the images lean toward higher contrast, it’s not a flaw; rather, it enhances the cinematic aesthetic.
In night mode, it also intelligently processes the shadows, exposure, highlights, and even details. As you can see, these night shots are good-looking, even in portrait mode.
The HONOR 400 Pro 5G is also good at shooting videos as it can shoot up to 4K@60fps video resolution and supports OIS. While it does not have the best video quality, it is good enough for capturing memories and content if you are a creator.
This phone also arrived with some AI editing features like the HONOR 400 5G, such as AI image to video, AI Eraser, Face tune, AI Beauty, AI Upscale, AI Cutout, and AI Outpainting.
Performance and Software
The HONOR 400 Pro 5G has an upgraded chipset, now comes with the powerful 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 octa-core chipset with Adreno 750 GPU. It is paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB internal storage.
Since it has a powerful chipset, all of my heavy tasks, even photo editing, are done seamlessly. It means you can use this phone for the long term and can cope with future apps and games that are resource-hungry. Gaming on this device is also snappy; it can run heavy games like Genshin Impact without stutters or lag.
With that, this phone is perfect for those professionals and even casual gamers who are looking for an all-around phone that can also run known games.
This device also got high benchmark scores: 15,798 in PCMark Work 3.0 and 1,772,301 in AnTuTu benchmark. These scores are considered high, promising that it can run any apps or games.
For the software side, this phone runs MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15 out of the box. I don’t have much to say since it is very optimized and smooth. It also gives a great overall experience, like we have in the HONOR 400 5G.
Battery Life
Battery is another feature this phone boasts because it has a large 6,000mAh battery capacity that is very efficient for its incredible specifications. This battery also supports 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
In our battery benchmark, the HONOR 400 Pro 5G lasted 15 hours and 51 minutes, which is long enough considering it has a large display and a powerful chipset. In my usage, it gave me a whole day of juice, especially when I’m using it frequently.
While charging, it also consumes less time because the 100W charger can charge the device in around 1 hour.
Verdict
The HONOR 400 Pro 5G is one of the best midrange smartphones launched this year. It offers snappy performance, high-quality cameras, an immersive display, a premium build, and a long-lasting battery. In my opinion, the price is just enough for these features because most of the phones in this price range don’t provide all of those. I can recommend this device to professionals, content creators, and users who need a high-quality smartphone for long-term use.
