It has been over a month since the iPhone 17 series launched in the Philippines. A lot of people were excited, especially because of the noticeable upgrades on the base models. But what about the iPhone 17 Pro Max? Is it really worth buying, or is it something you can skip?
After using the iPhone 17 Pro Max as my daily phone, here is my full review covering the design, performance, cameras, battery life, and overall experience.

Design and Build Quality
One of the biggest changes this year is the design, especially the camera area. Apple now calls it the Camera Plateau, and it is definitely bigger than before. Some people do not like the look, while others do. Personally, I like it, and I do not find it distracting.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max now uses an aluminum unibody instead of titanium. Titanium felt more premium, but aluminum makes the phone lighter and helps with heat management. It comes in three colors: Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver.
The back is still glass for wireless charging. After a month of daily use and switching cases often, I have not seen any scratches or discoloration on my unit.
Apple says the back uses Ceramic Shield, which is four times more crack-resistant, while the front uses Ceramic Shield 2 with better scratch resistance. Even with these upgrades, I still recommend using a case and screen protector.

Display and Multimedia Experience
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a large 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision.
One big upgrade this year is brightness. It can now reach up to 3,000 nits, which makes it much easier to see outdoors under direct sunlight.
There is also a new Display Pulse Smoothing feature, which helps reduce eye strain for users who are sensitive to screen flickering.
For watching videos, movies, and social media, the experience is excellent. The screen looks sharp and colorful, and the speakers are loud and clear.

Performance
Performance is one of the strongest points of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is powered by the Apple A19 Pro chip, and everything feels fast and smooth.
Multitasking is easy, apps open instantly, and editing photos or videos does not feel slow at all. For gaming, it can handle heavy games at medium to high settings without problems.
Apple also added a vapor chamber cooling system this year. I played Genshin Impact for about an hour, and the phone only got slightly warm, unlike older iPhones that heat up quickly.

Cameras
The camera setup is another big upgrade. The front camera is now an 18 megapixel Center Stage camera. It lets you take wider selfies even when holding the phone in portrait orientation, which feels more natural for vlogging and group shots.
On the back, you get three 48MP cameras. The biggest improvement is the zoom. Compared to the older 12MP periscope lens, this one supports up to 8 times optical quality zoom. This is great for concerts, events, and long-distance shots.
The ultra-wide camera is still good, though you can see some noise in low light. For video, Apple is still one of the best. Stabilization is excellent, and video quality is very sharp. It can shoot up to 4K@120fps video resolution.

Battery and Charging
Battery life on the iPhone 17 Pro Max is solid. I easily get a full day of heavy use.
Apple claims it lasts up to three hours longer than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and based on my experience, that feels accurate. The battery is rated at 4,823mAh, which may sound small compared to Android phones, but optimization makes a big difference.
Charging is faster this year with support for up to 40W wired charging. You can get around 50 percent in about 20 minutes. MagSafe charging stays at 25W.
Software Experience
The iPhone 17 Pro Max runs on iOS 26 out of the box. It feels smooth and stable, especially on this hardware.
The new liquid glass design is not for everyone. Some users like it, while others prefer the older look. Personally, I am getting used to it.
Final Verdict
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is one of the best smartphones you can buy right now. It is best for power users, professionals, and content creators who will actually use its performance and camera features.
If you are coming from an iPhone 14 Pro or older, this is a solid upgrade, and the improvements are easy to notice. But if you are already using an iPhone 15 Pro Max or 16 Pro Max, you can skip this generation.
I recommend getting the 512GB version or higher since 256GB can feel limiting for most users today.
