MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture in the Mobile World Congress 2021. This gives companies additional freedom in customizing essential 5G mobile device features to meet the needs of different market categories.
“MediaTek is collaborating with the world’s largest smartphone brands to unlock customized consumer experiences that differentiate flagship 5G smartphones,” said Dr. Yenchi Lee, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit.
The open resource architecture allows smartphone manufacturers to modify features in Dimensity 1200 chipset. They can modify its cameras, displays, graphics, artificial intelligence (AI) processing units (APUs), sensors, and networking sub-systems.
“Whether it’s novel multimedia features, unmatched performance, brilliant imaging or more synergy between smartphones and services, with our architecture device makers can tailor their devices to complement a variety of consumer lifestyles.” Dr. Yenchi Lee added.
Smartphone brands may modify the Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture in a variety of ways, including:
Multimedia Experiences
Brands will now have access to the in-chip, multi-core AI, and display processors. Now, they can customize multimedia experiences and unleash greater synergy between the chipset and the smartphone’s display and audio hardware.
In addition, they may use and adjust MediaTek’s AI Picture Quality (AI-PQ) and AI Super Resolution (AI-SR) algorithms. Besides, they can now create their own with customized video parameter/scenario detection.
Hybrid Multiprocessing
Furthermore, it also allows brands to fine-tune a device’s performance and power efficiency by customizing workload assignments across the chipset’s processing capabilities. This includes CPU, GPU, Visual Processors, and Deep Learning Accelerators.
AI Processing
Moreover, brands have given way to MediaTek’s deep learning accelerator (DLA) within the MediaTek APU by using the basis of MediaTek’s NeuroPilot. In fact, it enables them to modify the multi-threaded scheduler and bespoke algorithms.
Then, they may use the DLA to merge INT8, INT16, and FP16 data types into a single AI hardware. Definitely, this will enhance the device’s accuracy, performance, and energy efficiency.
Camera Processing Engines
MediaTek’s Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture provides brands with access to the Dimensity 1200 chipset’s low-level camera hardware engines. It allows them to tailor settings to fit their preferred parameters, camera sensors, and software installations.
In addition, manufacturers now have raw access to the camera ISP for both photography and video capture. They may now directly control the data flow immediately following the camera button press.
Besides, brands can configure the chipset’s hardware-based visual processing engines. This includes depth mapping, image stabilization, warp engine, color correction, and more.
Connectivity
Finally, customers may customize the newest Bluetooth capabilities with profiles to fit their wireless accessories, such as headphones or gaming peripherals, allowing for unique brand experiences.
Expect smartphones with Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture customized chipsets to be available in the market this July 2021.
