At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, ZTE announced its latest budget gaming phone that now comes with shoulder triggers, the nubia Neo 2 5G.

Mobile gamers out there on a budget will surely be happy because of the game-changing shoulder triggers. In our article today, we will unbox this new nubia Neo 2 5G and share my first impressions.

    Unboxing Experience

The nubia Neo 2 5G comes with a yellow box that has a cool robotic and gamer-ish design with “BETTER GAMING FOR ALL” and “Powered by ZTE” branding. Upon opening the box, we will find a carton with a quick start guide, warranty card, SIM ejector tool, and a hard case.

Under it are the Nubia Neo 2 5G, 33W fast charging adapter, and USB-C cable. It’s nice that ZTE uses a USB-C to USB-C cable even though it’s affordable. I hope other brands will adopt it as well.

    Design

We will see, its design is also very cool and it almost looks like its predecessor. It is also available in Storm Gray, and Sunfire Yellow, and the added colorway is Frost Silver. It’s just that, the back of it is glossy or glass-like, so it’s a fingerprint magnet. I suggest that you buy the Sunlight Yellow or Frost Silver so that the smudges are not too obvious.

The placement of its two camera bumps is the same but now it is an octagon, or what ZTE calls Octagonal Rign design. This encases the 50MP main camera, 2MP bokeh lens, and LED flash.

Then on the sides, we can see the dual nano-SIM card slot and volume rockers on the left side, while on the right side is the power button/fingerprint scanner, and its proud shoulder triggers. We can see the microphone, USB-C port, and single-firing speaker at the bottom, then there is another microphone at the top.

This nubia Neo 2 is a bit thick for me, because its thickness is 8.5mm, due to its massive battery capacity.

    Display

For display, it has a 6.72-inch IPS LCD display that has FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Its bezels and chin are quite thin, and in our full review, we will check if its display is good. But its display is also decent, I just got used to the AMOLED panel.  It also has a punch hole that houses the 16MP selfie shooter.

    Chipset and Memory

Inside the nubia Neo 2 5G, it has a 6nm Unisoc T820 octa-core processor with Mali-G57 GPU. It also has 8GB RAM and supports up to 12GB Dynamic RAM, so a total of 20GB for a seamless multitasking experience.

Like its predecessor, it also has 256GB internal storage, but it is now UFS3.1 delivering faster read and write speed. Just take note that it doesn’t have a microSD card slot, but the 256GB is enough.

For its performance, we will also find out in our full review, especially when we will try its shoulder triggers. Maybe we’ll try that in first-person shooting games like PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Out of the box, it runs MyOS 13 based on Android 13 and it’s my first time to try this software. It also boasts Game Space 2.0 which offers a more stable gaming experience.

    Battery

I also mentioned earlier that it has a large battery because it has a 6,000mAh battery capacity, so for sure it has a long-lasting battery. So, it supports 33W fast charging and its adapter is also good because it is a USB-C to USB-C cable as I mentioned earlier.
