nubia Philippines is about to launch its latest nubia Neo 5 Series, and we were fortunate to receive a review unit of the nubia Neo 5 GT. We already unboxed it, and here are our first impressions.

First Look at the nubia Neo 5 GT
If you love a gamer-inspired smartphone, the nubia Neo 5 GT delivers that aesthetic with its mecha-style design. It features a glossy back with detailed elements similar to its predecessors.
Holding the phone feels just right and comfortable in the hand. It weighs 200g and measures 8.4mm thick, which is quite decent considering its large battery capacity. This is important, especially for gaming, since comfort plays a big role during long and competitive sessions.

The device comes in Phantom Black, Stellar Silver, and Electro Gold. Personally, I prefer the Stellar Silver variant over the Phantom Black unit that we have. It looks cleaner and less flashy compared to the Electro Gold colorway. It also has an IP64 dust and water resistance rating, so it can handle accidental splashes.
On the right side, you will find its dual shoulder triggers that help enhance the gaming experience, especially for first-person shooter games like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG. These are called Neo Triggers 5.0 and they now feature a 550Hz response rate, making them more responsive for gaming.

One of the standout features of the nubia Neo 5 GT is its built-in active cooling fan, designed to maintain optimal temperature during gaming sessions. This is a rare feature in this price range and a welcome addition. Previously, built-in fans were mostly found in nubia’s RedMagic lineup.
To further improve thermals, the device also features a larger vapor chamber cooling system that helps dissipate heat efficiently.
The nubia Neo 5 GT also gets a significant display upgrade. It now features a large 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, 3,048Hz touch sampling rate, and up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness. If you are coming from the Neo 3 GT or older models, this is a major improvement.

With all these gaming-focused features, you might be wondering if it can actually handle games well. The device is powered by a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 7400 octa-core processor, paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and nubia’s NeoTurbo engine. On paper, it should run popular games smoothly. However, we have not done extended gaming tests yet, so we will share more insights in our full review, which may come next week.
It also supports WiFi 6, which is beneficial for gaming, especially during critical moments such as clashes or end-game scenarios.
As mentioned earlier, the nubia Neo 5 GT packs a large 6,210mAh battery, which is expected to last through long gaming sessions. It supports 80W fast charging, and it also features bypass charging so you can play while plugged in without excessive heat buildup.
Even though it is marketed as a budget gaming phone, it still offers a 50MP main camera, a 2MP secondary sensor, and a 16MP fixed-focus selfie camera. While the camera setup may seem basic, we were able to capture decent photos, which we will showcase in our full review.
Initial Thoughts
Based on its specifications, the nubia Neo 5 GT looks like a strong contender for those who want a gaming-focused smartphone. It already offers features such as dedicated shoulder triggers, a built-in cooling fan, and capable performance hardware. For now, we will hold off on final conclusions until our full gaming tests are complete, which we will cover in our full review.
