OPPO’s latest entry-level phone has finally arrived on the market and in this article, we gonna share our unboxing and review of the new OPPO A18.
Before we start, it is now available nationwide as well as in OPPO’s official store on Lazada for only PHP 5,999. The first 100 buyers of this phone will get a free PHP 300 Foodpanda voucher via the MyOPPO App.
Unboxing and Design
Before unboxing, you can see that its box also looks like the box of OPPO A58 which is very minimalist. The contents of the box are the OPPO A18, USB Type-C cable, charging adapter, jelly case, and some documentation.
The design of the OPPO A18 is also nice even though it is affordable thanks to its stylish and iconic OPPO Glow. It is available in two eye-catching colorways: Glowing Blue has a diamond-like effect while Glowing Black also has a simple and elegant appearance.
It also has flat sides like other recently released phones in the OPPO A-series. OPPO is also confident of the phone’s durability, guaranteeing that it can survive all obstacles in everyday use because it is really made to last.
Speaking of sides, we can see on its left side its dedicated SIM tray, then on the right is its volume rack and power button/fingerprint scanner. At the top of it is empty, then at the bottom is the 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, USB-C port, and stereo speaker.
Display and Multimedia
As for the display, it boasts a 6.56-inch Sunlight display that supports up to 720nits max brightness. With that, users can definitely see the content on its screen even outdoors or in direct sunlight.
Good thing that it also features a 90Hz screen refresh rate that most consumers are looking for. This high refresh rate allows you to have a more immersive experience with your phone. You will also enjoy using this phone, especially for watching because it has a 96% NTSC color gamut that produces vibrant colors.
Expect a fully immersive audio experience with the OPPO A18 because even if it only has a single firing speaker you can crank up its volume up to 300% without causing any distortion. According to OPPO, when you turn its volume to 300%, it can achieve up to 81 dB, so even if you are in a noisy place, you will still be sure to hear its audio.
In case you don’t want to use the loudspeaker, don’t worry because this phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Camera
As for the camera, don’t expect too much from its image quality because it only has an 8MP main camera and a 2MP bokeh camera on the back. At the front, it has a 5MP selfie camera.
The image quality you can get here is still decent, but sometimes the processing is a bit bad, especially when it’s too bright or you’re outdoors. Although the quality of most of the pictures we got is okay, the camera is still acceptable.
For video, it can shoot up to 1080p@30fps both in the rear and front camera. And the camera modes it has are portrait mode, night mode, time-lapse, panorama, sticker, and pro mode.

Performance
The performance is also one of the important things to look at when buying a smartphone and this OPPO A18 has good performance. This phone has a 12nm MediaTek Helio G85 octa-core chipset with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. You can also enable its RAM Expansion feature to add up to 4GB of Virtual RAM for an extra performance boost.
So far, I can do the tasks I always do on this phone such as browsing social media, watching videos, taking pictures, calling, and other casual tasks.
Since it has MediaTek Helio G85, you can also play light games smoothly on this phone. It can even run other popular online games such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Call of Duty Mobile. However, when you play those games, you will experience some frame drops, especially if the graphics settings are maxed.
For benchmarks, this phone got 277,770 AnTuTu benchmark scores, 7,064 work 3.0 performance scores in PCMark, while 434 single-core scores, and 1403 multi-core scores in Geekbench 6.
This phone is also guaranteed to last a long time because it has 36-month fluency protection so expect a consistent experience within the said period. So if you are looking for a phone for long-term use, this OPPO A18 is the one you should buy.
Battery
This OPPO A18 features a huge 5,000mAh battery capacity that provides extended battery life. I tried to benchmark its battery with PCMARK Work 3.0 battery life but it always fails. But in my estimate, it also reaches 12 hours just like what OPPO said.
Aside from the long battery life, this phone also features all-day charging protection that ensures the safety of the device especially if you charge it overnight. It also features all-day AI power saving that guarantees up to 25 hours of all-time standby even at a low battery level of 5%.
Conclusion
This new OPPO A18 is a really good phone and is worth buying if you have a tight budget. It already has 4GB RAM with up to 4GB Extended RAM, a large 5,000mAh battery capacity, a 90Hz Sunlight display, and 36-month fluency protection. If you need a very durable phone that is made to last and you will be using it for the long term, this is the phone you should buy.
