One of the latest releases from OPPO Philippines is the OPPO A5 Pro series, and we have the 5G variant on hand. The OPPO A5 Pro 5G is an entry-level smartphone that continues OPPO’s commitment to quality, durability, and reliability. After spending a few weeks with the device, here are our first impressions.

Unboxing Experience
Let’s start with the unboxing. The OPPO A5 Pro 5G comes in a clean white box with gray accent, maintaining the same design language as previous A-series models.
Inside, you’ll find a carton containing the SIM ejector tool, documentation, and a silicone case. Under that, the device itself is neatly wrapped in plastic. At the bottom of the device, you’ll find a USB-C cable and a 45W SUPERVOOC adapter.

We also have an unboxing video on SuperbDan that you can check out later.
Design and Build Quality
The OPPO A5 Pro 5G boasts an elegant, slim, and sleek design that enhances both aesthetics and durability. It comes in three stylish color options: Mocha Brown, which has a matte finish, Olive Green with a leather texture, and Bloom Pink with filigree patterns and the OPPO Glow effect. All three colorways have a premium look, but personally, I prefer the Olive Green for its sophisticated leather-textured back.
In terms of dimensions, the Mocha Brown and Bloom Pink variants weigh 194g with a 7.76mm thickness, while the Olive Green variant is slightly heavier at 196g and 7.86mm thick. Despite being an entry-level phone, it feels premium in hand.
One of its standout features is its impressive durability. The phone is rated IP69, IP68, and IP66 for dust and water resistance and has Military-Grade Shock Resistance certification. We even put it to the test by submerging it in boiling hotpot soup and dropping it without a case—and it survived. However, despite these durability claims, we don’t recommend trying extreme tests yourself, as they are not covered by warranty.

The hybrid SIM tray is located on the left side, while the volume buttons and power button, which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner, are on the right side. At the bottom, there are two microphones, a USB-C port, and the main stereo speaker. A secondary speaker is located in the earpiece area.

Display
The OPPO A5 Pro 5G features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen with an HD+ resolution. While this may seem outdated compared to the FHD+ and AMOLED panels found in other devices, the display remains vibrant. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 1000 nits of max brightness, 100% sRGB in Natural mode, 83% DCI-P3 in Vivid mode, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. Although colors look decent and vibrant, I still believe OPPO could have opted for a higher-resolution display for a better viewing experience.

Performance & Software
Powering the OPPO A5 Pro 5G is the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6300 octa-core chipset, paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. It also supports 12GB of Virtual RAM via RAM Expansion technology. Our unit is the 8GB/256GB variant, so we’ll provide a full performance analysis in our detailed review.
The phone runs on ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. Since I’ve used ColorOS 15 on the OPPO Reno13 5G, I’m already familiar with it. However, given the A5 Pro 5G’s lower hardware specifications, we shouldn’t expect ultra-smooth performance. Fortunately, the Trinity Engine helps optimize performance and efficiency.

Cameras
The OPPO A5 Pro 5G sports a dual-camera setup with a 50MP main camera and a 2MP portrait lens. For selfies, it has an 8MP front camera, which performs decently. The camera system includes useful features such as Live Photo, Dual-View Video, AI Portrait Retouching, and Portrait Mode.

Battery and Charging
Equipped with a massive 5,800mAh battery, the OPPO A5 Pro 5G promises long-lasting battery life. OPPO claims it can provide up to 35.7 hours of screen-off calling, 16.1 hours of YouTube video playback, and 31.3 hours of local audio playback. OPPO also highlights its battery durability, stating that even after 1,600 charge cycles, it still retains 80% of its original capacity.
For charging, it supports 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging. According to OPPO, it can charge to 10% in under 5 minutes and reach 100% in 83 minutes. We haven’t tested this yet, but we’ll verify it in our full review.
Other Features
Since it runs ColorOS 15, we get access to advanced AI features first introduced in the Reno13 5G, such as AI Unblur, AI Reflection Remover, AI Eraser 2.0, AI Studio, and AI Assistant for Documents and Notes.
