Sony teased its future streaming-focused handheld in May 2023, and the device has now officially opened the PlayStation Portal.

    PlayStation Portal

The PlayStation Portal has been unveiled!

Previously known as Project Q, Sony has renamed it PlayStation Portal. To be clear, it will not be a stand-alone portable system like the PSP or Vita. Instead, it will only use Wi-Fi and the Remote Play app to stream games directly from your PlayStation 5.

The PlayStation Remote player transports the PS5 experience to your palm. It includes the DualSense wireless controller’s essential capabilities, such as adjustable triggers and haptic feedback. The vivid 8-inch LCD screen supports 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second, giving the high-definition visual experience demanded of high-quality games made by world-class developers.

PlayStation Portal may use the DualSense controller to play supported games installed on your PS5 console. A 3.5mm audio jack is also included for wired audio. PS VR2 titles that require the headgear, as well as games streamed via PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.

Finally, if you’re not using it for gaming, it can be used to watch media, such as YouTube.

It requires at least 5 Mbps of broadband internet Wi-Fi to be used. A high-speed connection of at least 15 Mbps is suggested for a better gaming experience.

Wireless headset Pulse Elite and wireless earbuds Pulse Explore

The latest PlayStation wireless headphones and earbuds, the Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore, deliver next-level audio quality to the gaming experience.

Pulse Elite is our new wireless headset that offers lossless audio and comes with a retractable boom mic and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering background sounds. A charging hanger is also included with the product for a convenient charging and storage option.

Pulse Explore is our first wireless earphone, offering a quality portable music experience with two microphones and AI-enhanced noise rejection capable of filtering out background noise. It also includes a charging case and lossless audio.

The Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore will be the first PlayStation audio devices that feature custom-designed planar magnetic drivers, which will provide an audiophile-level listening experience often found in premium headphones for expert sound engineers. PlayStation was excited to be one of the first firms to provide wireless earbuds to the mainstream consumer market with planar magnetic driver technology, with Pulse Explore.

PlayStation Link is the company's latest wireless audio technology

The Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore connect to PlayStation Portal using PlayStation Link, a new wireless audio technology. This breakthrough provides low latency, lossless audio, and simple switching between different PlayStation Link hosts, such as the PS5 with the USB adaptor and PlayStation Portal.

The USB adaptor included with each headset and earphones is necessary for PlayStation Link when using Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore with PS5. The PlayStation Link USB adaptor, which can be used on PC and Mac, will also be marketed separately, allowing players to connect Pulse Elite or Pulse Explore to experience the same lossless and low-latency audio.

Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore can connect to both a PlayStation Link-enabled device (PS5, PC, Mac, or PlayStation Portal) and a Bluetooth-enabled device at the same time. Pulse Explore, for example, can be connected to the PS5 (through the USB adaptor) via PlayStation Link while also being connected to a mobile phone over Bluetooth. While playing on PS5, gamers can answer calls and hear them using the same Pulse Explore earbuds.

US price with straight conversion to PHP (no taxes or customs yet):

PlayStation Portal – USD 200 (around PHP 11.3K)

Pulse Elite – USD 149.99 (around PHP 8.5K)

For the time being, only the pricing has been revealed. Sony promises to provide more information about availability based on region soon. Stay tuned for further information on the PH release here on Balastech.
