realme started this year by releasing two budget phones that were really liked by the masses. They do not end there because they will also release on March 7 the new realme 12 Pro+ and realme 12+ 5G which boast great camera capabilities.
Luckily, realme sent us the realme 12+ 5G to test out, so join me in unboxing it and I will share with you the first impressions of this phone.
Unboxing and Accessories
Just like the other realme phones we have unboxed, this realme 12+ 5G also comes with a yellow box with textured stripes and a large model name written on the front.
The unboxing experience is very straightforward, when you open the box you will immediately see the carton containing documentation, SIM ejector tool, and jelly case. Under is our realme 12+ 5G, then the 67W SUPERVOOC charging adapter and the USB-C cable.
Design and Build Quality
Even if it’s not the Pro+ variant, it still looks very premium because it also has a Luxury Watch design co-designed with Ollivier Savéo, who is an international luxury watch design master. I liked it because the back is made of vegan leather and it has a 3D Jubilee Bracelet design. Its available colorway is Pioneer Green and Navigator Beige.
Its camera island seems to be the same as that of the realme 11 series, which is large and in the middle. It consists of a 50MP Sony LYT600 OIS main camera, an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro lens.
The only thing I don’t like is its glass-like flat sides that are super fingerprint magnets, but of course, the jelly case is the key.
Speaking of sides, its left side is empty, while the volume rocker and power button are on the right. At the bottom is the dedicated hybrid SIM tray, primary microphone, USB-C port, and the main stereo speaker. Meanwhile, we can see the 3.5mm headphone jack and the secondary microphone on the top.
In front of it, we can see its 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that supports 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, up to 2,000nits brightness in Sunlight mode, and IP54 dust & water resistance. There is also a punch-hole at the top-center of the screen equipped with a 16MP selfie camera.
As for the build quality, the phone feels very solid when you hold it, it looks sturdy. Since its sides are flat, you also have a better grip when you hold it, but it’s a bit thick for me.
What’s inside the realme 12+ 5G?
Inside the realme 12+ 5G is a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 7050 octa-core 5G-ready chipset paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. It also supports the Dynamic RAM Expansion feature which can provide up to 12GB Virtual RAM. In case you care about its storage, it supports up to 2TB microSD card.
It’s also good that this phone is 5G-ready. For me, the 5G connectivity is more reliable now compared to 4G because most of the locations I go to are 5G-ready as well.
This device also has a large 5,000mAh battery capacity that supports 67W SUPERVOOC charging, Besides, it runs realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14 out of the box.
I have been using this realme 12+ 5G for about 2 weeks now. As of the moment, I’m still doing some tests for our upcoming full review, so stay tuned!
