Looking for a smartphone that is only below PHP 4K? realme got you covered by releasing a very affordable phone for the masses. The realme Note 50 is here with us now so let’s find out if it’s worth buying!

For those who don’t know, realme just introduced their new “Note” Series that marketed as “long-lasting value” and the realme Note 50 is one of the cheapest phones in the series. It’s just gladdening because realme thought of releasing a phone that the masses can definitely afford. So kudos to you realme!

    Unboxing Experience and Accessories

Like other realme phones, it comes with a yellow box with the model name and realme branding on the front and sides. Then on the back, you can see the main features or highlights of the realme Note 50.

When you open the box, what you will see is the carton with “Make it real” written on it, realme’s new slogan. Its content includes the SIM ejector tool, some documentation, and a jelly case. Under that carton is our realme Note 50 and its USB-C cable and 10W charger.

    Design and Build Quality

As for its design, it looks just like the realme C51 because it also has a Trendy Glittering design. You will notice, it has a shimmered finish on the top while it has a matte finish on the bottom.

Its available colorways are Sky Blue and Midnight Black and our review unit is of course the Midnight Black. It’s sophisticated to look at and very stylish too and you won’t notice that it’s only under PHP 4K.

But even though this phone is cheap, it is not cheap to hold. It also has IP54 Dust & Water resistance so you can rest assured even if you accidentally spill water on it.

The realme Note 50 is also thin because it also features the 7.99mm Ultra Slim design similar to the realme C51. It’s also boxy because its sides are flat so it’s comfortable for me to hold.

Moreover, the dedicated SIM tray is on the left side, while the volume rocker and power button/fingerprint scanner are on the right side. At the bottom, we can see the 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone, USB-C port, and stereo speaker, then the top is empty.

    Display and Multimedia

Another highlight of this realme Note 50 is its massive display. It has a 6.74-inch waterdrop display with HD+ resolution and supports a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate.

It’s interesting that even though this phone is cheap, it still features a high refresh rate. The resolution is only HD+, which is acceptable. Besides, even if it’s only HD+, users will enjoy it, especially if it’s their first smartphone.

Note 50’s display is also perfect for browsing social media, gaming, or even streaming because the quality as well as the colors it produces are good. Plus, even though it only has a single firing speaker, you will still enjoy watching or playing because its sound quality is strong and good.

Using this phone outdoors is also decent since it supports up to 560nits max brightness, just make sure the Auto brightness is turned on to activate the High Brightness Mode when you’re outside.

Just like other models in the realme C series, it also has a Mini Capsule feature. This feature basically displays charging and battery status, data usage, and step tracking.

    Performance

Then for performance, like the realme C51, this phone is also powered by a 12nm Unisoc T612 octa-core chipset. It is also paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and supports up to 4GB Dynamic RAM Expansion.

Its storage is a bit small, but we have nothing to complain about because this phone is so cheap. But just in case the 64GB is not enough for you, it has a microSD card slot that supports up to 2TB of storage.

When I hadn’t tried the phone yet and I found out that it was Unisoc T612 and only had 4GB RAM, I immediately doubted if its performance would be good because, after all, 4GB RAM is a bit of a struggle now, but because it has realme UI T Edition based on Android 13, the herein realme Note 50 is very smooth.

I have also tried to play Mobile Legends and Call of Duty: Mobile here and the gaming experience is also decent. It is not laggy in both games, so this phone is fine for light gaming.

In benchmarks, it got a 243,516 AnTuTu benchmark score and a 7,842 Work 3.0 performance score in the PCMark benchmark.

    Camera

One of the things I like about this new budget phone is its camera. Even though its rear camera setup only has a 13MP main camera with a mono lens, the photos I got are still great. It’s just right for capturing moments.

However, its photos are not that sharp and detailed especially in low light. But the color it produces is enough, although a bit oversaturated at times.

While on the front, it has a 5MP selfie shooter. Well, its quality is also decent but don’t expect too much since it’s only 5MP. But the important thing is, it gets the job done.

These are the photos we took here on the realme Note 50:

As for the video, the quality is just okay. It can shoot 1080p@30fps on the rear camera, while only 720p@30fps for the front camera. Since this is just a budget phone, it doesn’t feature any stabilization.

These are the videos we took here on the realme Note 50:

    Battery

Next, we will talk about its battery, the realme Note 50 has a large 5,000mAh battery capacity that can last more than a day. It got 16 hours and 27 minutes in the PCMark Benchmark and that’s long for a 5,000mAh battery capacity. Maybe it’s because the operating system of this phone is lightweight.

However, the realme Note 50 only supported 10W charging and that’s a bit slow for today’s standard. It also took more than two hours to charge it from 20-100%.

    Verdict

For the price of PHP 3,599, this realme Note 50 can be considered one of the cheapest entry-level phones that offers sufficient features. Since its hardware and software are greatly optimized, you can expect decent performance in this phone. You can also get more than enough with its camera since its image quality is already decent.

Before you buy it, you should also think about its charging support because 10W is slow. But I can highly recommend this phone, especially if it will only be used for casual tasks like school or entertainment. This is also a perfect secondary phone if you are looking for a backup phone.
