Along with the OPPO A58, we also tested the recently released TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G. In case you missed it, we also have an unboxing article about it. For me, this is one of the best smartphones to buy this second half of the year as it features a cool design and competitive specs.Â
Anyway, we bought this phone on Shopee for only PHP 9,999. It is also available in all authorized resellers of TECNO Mobile nationwide and in their official stores on Lazada and TikTok Shop.Â

Display and MultimediaÂ
This TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G boasts a large 6.78-inch IPS LCD display with FHD+ resolution. I really love its display because it produces vibrant colors and crisp quality giving a natural look to what I’m watching. It’s just that its screen is a little big for an easy grip, especially since it has a thick body.Â
This phone also supports a 120Hz screen refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. Having a high screen refresh rate is now a smartphone standard as it gives a more immersive experience, and I’m happy that this phone features it.Â

Even though it has up to 580nits max brightness, I realized that it is still not enough. When you’re outdoors and it’s too bright, you can’t see the display very well. But overall, the display is good and I enjoyed watching and playing games on this device.Â
However, its dual stereo speaker setup is not that nice since it lacks bass and the mid and treble are more emphasized. Fortunately, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack and you can also use wireless earphones for a better listening experience.Â
I also liked its backlight because when I play music it lights up. It is also very useful for me because it also lights up when you have new notifications and more.Â

CameraÂ
Next is the camera, to recall, it has a 50MP main shooter along with a 0.08MP depth sensor. We already saw this rear camera setup in previous TECNO POVA models and TECNO still hasn’t changed it.Â
However, the front camera setup of TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G got upgraded from 8MP to 16MP selfie shooter. For camera quality, I can say that the images I got are fine.Â
However, some images turned out to be a bit over-saturated. One thing I really liked though was its Super Night mode because it really enhanced or brightened the images properly.Â
I also tested its Portrait Mode and it got a nice blurry background and was able to get a good subject-to-background separation.Â
Like the POVA 5, this phone has the same video shooting performance. It can also shoot up to 2K@30fps, 1080p@60fps, and 1080p@30fps when Ultra Steady mode is turned on. The video quality I got here is also decent and it’s also good because there is stabilization in the front camera too.Â

PerformanceÂ
When it comes to performance, it’s pretty much the same as POVA 5 and the difference is not noticeable. It has a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6080 octa-core chipset and it is 5G-ready, so that could be one of its advantages over the POVA 5.Â

The TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G also comes with 8GB RAM with up to 8GB Virtual RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. Based on my 1-month testing of this phone, the performance is very smooth and I didn’t encounter any problems.Â
Even in gaming, it is very seamless especially when playing Call of Duty: Mobile, Farlight 84, and Mobile Legends. On the other hand, we experienced some FPS drops while playing Genshin Impact.Â

I can recommend this phone if you only play light to medium games. For benchmarks, we got a 426,152 Antutu benchmark score, lower compared to POVA 5 which got 432,239.Â
But we got a higher 12,075 performance score in PCMark’s Work 3.0 compared to POVA 5’s 10,313 score. For additional benchmarks, I also ran a test in Geekbench 6 and it got a 747 single-core score and a 2,037 multi-core score.Â

BatteryÂ
As I mentioned in our unboxing article, the battery capacity of this phone has been downgraded since it now only has a 5,000mAh battery capacity instead of 6,000mAh. For me, the shorter battery life is very noticeable. In PCMark’s Work 3.0 battery life test, this device got 11 hours and 2 minutes result which is 3 hours and 42 minutes lower than what we got in POVA 5.Â

But if you use your smartphone all the time and you run out of juice, it can be charged quickly because it supports 68W Ultra Charge. I tried to charge it 20-100% and it only took 47 minutes and 29 seconds! It’s kinda close to TECNO’s claim that with this fast charging technology, it can fully charge the device in just 45 minutes.Â
ConclusionÂ
Among new smartphones released recently, this POVA 5 Pro 5G is one of my highly recommended smartphones. For the price of PHP 9,999, this TENCO POVA 5 Pro 5G is a good deal because you are getting a powerful chipset, 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, decent camera setup, very fast charging technology, and a cool design.Â
I can say that its backlight is not just a gimmick because it is quite helpful for some of us. Besides, this phone already supports a 5G network that delivers a faster internet connection.Â
