    YouTube has significantly lowered the criteria for video monetization

    Good news aspiring content creators! YouTube team just announced that it will lower the criteria of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).

    To help more creators earn more money on YouTube, the team announced last year that the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) will be receiving significant modifications. And in case you missed it, they previously implemented Shorts ad revenue sharing and expanded YPP eligibility to include Shorts creators.

    But now, they are expanding the program by launching earlier access to YPP with lower eligibility criteria that will help creators start earning on YouTube quickly. Besides, they’re also launching an upgrade to the YouTube Shopping affiliate program for creators who have already made some progress. 

    YouTube has significantly reduced the criteria for video monetization
    The following are YouTube’s new criteria for monetizing in 2023, which are effective as of right now: 
    • Having 500 subscribers;
    • 3 public uploads in the last 90 days;
    • and either 3,000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. 
    Previously, the guidelines were: 
    • Having at least 1,000 subscribers;
    • and either 4,000 watch hours in the past year or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. 

    Creators who meet the new criteria can apply to join YPP and gain access to tools for tipping like Super Thanks, Super Chat, and Super Stickers, subscription tools like channel subscriptions, and the capacity to market their merchandise through YouTube Shopping. 

    The three videos every 90 days criterion are thrilling since, even receiving millions of views, content creators could not have enough content to produce numerous films during that time. This new qualifying standard is being used by YouTube in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea. Later, it will expand to additional nations where YPP is offered. 

    In addition, YouTube is expanding its Shopping affiliate program to more producers in the United States. Creators who are already members of YPP and have over 20,000 subscribers will be able to tag products in their videos and Shorts and earn a commission. Last November, YouTube launched shopping-related capabilities for Shorts to select US-based artists. 

    Next week at the VidCon conference, YouTube plans to talk about and provide additional information about its new programs.
