The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 CPUs are set to be available in both HEDT and Workstation variants. The Workstation lineup will compete in the top-tier market segment and boast impressive features such as support for up to 128 PCIe Gen 5 lanes, 8 PCIe Gen 3 lanes, and 8-channel DDR5 memory. However, the Workstation versions will lack the capability for CPU and memory overclocking. On the other hand, the HEDT lineup will support overclocking for both the CPU and memory, and will also feature 4-channel DDR5 memory support and up to 64 PCIe Gen 5.0 lanes.
It is currently unclear if AMD will offer the full 96-core Zen 4 parts on the HEDT family, but if they do, it could pose a significant challenge to Intel’s Xeon W-2400 lineup, which will only offer up to 24 cores.
