For smooth, secure edge AI experiences, the supercharged SoC provides generative AI on-device processing, the MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300.
Dimensity 9300
The Dimensity 9300, MediaTek’s newest flagship mobile processor featuring an exclusive all-big-core design, was unveiled today. With this special arrangement, MediaTek’s industry-leading power efficiency and high performance combine to provide unique user experiences in gaming, video capture, and on-device generative AI computation.
Joe Chen, President at MediaTek, stated, “The Dimensity 9300 is MediaTek’s most powerful flagship chip yet, bringing a huge boost in raw computing power to flagship smartphones with our groundbreaking All Big Core design.” He added, “This unique architecture, combined with our upgraded on-chip AI Processing Unit, will usher in a new era of generative AI applications as developers push the limits with edge AI and hybrid AI computing capabilities.”
The Dimensity 9300 incorporates MediaTek’s next-generation APU 790 AI processor, which is intended to greatly enhance generative AI performance and energy efficiency for quicker and more secure edge computing. The APU 790 doubles performance for integer and floating-point calculations while reducing power consumption by 45%. The APU 790’s processing speed is eight times quicker than the previous generation because of its adaptation of the Transformer model for operator acceleration. Using steady diffusion, images may be generated in less than a second.
When paired with the company’s NeuroPilot memory hardware compression, MediaTek’s mixed-precision INT4 quantization technology may more effectively use memory bandwidth and drastically lower the amount of memory needed for big AI models. APU 790-supported NeuroPilot Fusion is capable of handling large language models with 1B, 7B, and 13B parameters, scalable to 33B, and continuously performing LoRA low-rank adaptation.
The Dimensity 9300 will support state-of-the-art mainstream big language models, such as Meta Llama 2, Baichuan 2, Baidu AI LLM, and more, as part of MediaTek’s robust AI ecosystem. This facilitates the swift and effective deployment of multi-modal generative AI apps by developers, offering consumers generative AI experiences for text, pictures, and audio.
Mobile gaming experiences are enhanced with the Dimensity 9300 thanks to Arm’s newest flagship GPU, the Immortalis G720. At the same power consumption as the Dimensity 9200, the GPU performance of the Dimensity 9300 is increased by over 46%. Similarly remarkable, the Dimensity 9300 offers 40% less GPU power consumption while maintaining the same level of performance as the chipset from the previous generation. Users benefit greatly from this increase in performance without losing battery life.
Smartphones equipped with MediaTek’s second-generation hardware raytracing engine, combined with the chipset’s extreme octa-core CPU design, would enable console-level global lighting effects to be generated at a rate of 60 frames per second. Also, users can easily multitask with this strong chipset, enabling them to watch another movie or play a game and stream a video simultaneously.
With the combination of an always-on HDR up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second (fps) and a low-power AI-ISP, the Dimensity 9300 completely reimagines mobile photography and video capture. The processor also enables 4K AI Noise Reduction (AI-NR) and AI processing on RAW photographs and movies, in addition to 4K at 30 frames per second cinematic mode with real-time bokeh tracking for professional-quality bokeh improvements.
Moreover, the Dimensity 9300 will support the new Ultra HDR format in Android 14 for the next generation of smartphones. Ultra HDR is a significant advancement in mobile photography since it ensures that images are compatible with the JPEG format, which is almost widely supported, while also making photographs appear considerably more colorful. The Dimensity 9300 boasts ground-breaking ambient light adaptive HDR recovery technology, which further improves customers’ photography.
The Dimensity 9300 display system uses the chipset’s advanced on-device AI capability to identify common items and backdrop images in real time. When combined with the MiraVision Picture Quality (PQ) engine, it will dynamically modify the main objects’ ideal contrast, sharpness, and color, giving the image a more three-dimensional appearance and producing realistic video experiences that are on par with those seen in flagship DTVs today.
The Dimensity 9300 has MediaTek Xtra Range Technology for improved long-range connectivity and supports Wi-Fi 7 speeds up to 6.5 Gbps since connectivity is an important part of the user experience. Dimensity 9300 also offers up to three times faster smartphone tethering rates than competing solutions, thanks to MediaTek’s Multi-Link Hotspot technology.
Other key features of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 include:
- Large core power: To optimize performance, the Dimensity 9300 is built on TSMC’s third-generation 4nm technology, which has four Arm Cortex-X4 cores clocked at up to 3.25GHz and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz.
- Faster display speeds: In addition to dual active display support for foldable form factors, the chipset supports WQHD at 180Hz and 4K at 120Hz to produce amazing graphics.
- Smooth 5G connectivity: In order to maximize power economy, MediaTek’s UltraSave 3.0+ technology is included in the 5G R16 modem, which supports 4CC-CA Sub-6GHz and 8CC-CA mmWave.
- Fast memory: The Dimensity 9300 supports the LPDDR5T 9600Mbps memory, which is presently the fastest speed available.
The Dimensity 9300 offers superior security for flagship Android devices and is also necessary for these user-experience-focused features. The chipset’s privacy-focused safety design safeguards critical operations both during secure computing and boot-up, blocking physical attempts at data access. Since Arm’s most recent v9 architecture powers the Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 processors, the chipset supports Arm’s cutting-edge Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) technology, which facilitates the identification of memory-related issues by developers both before and after deployment. Google has promised to enable MTE throughout the whole Android stack, which will expedite development and help keep consumers secure while allowing OEMs to launch products more quickly.
By the end of 2023, the first smartphones with the Dimensity 9300 chipset will be on the market. Please go to https://i.mediatek.com/mediatek-5g to acquire more information about MediaTek’s Dimensity portfolio.
