HONOR Philippines is about to launch its latest foldable smartphone tomorrow, the HONOR Magic V6. They lent us a review unit, and we are now sharing our first impressions of this device.
This is our first time reviewing a foldable smartphone, which is why we have high expectations for this device. Although we don’t have any idea about its local pricing yet, a higher cost compared to the Magic V5 is anticipated, especially because of today’s chip shortage.

Unboxing Experience
Since it is a flagship device, it comes with a premium unboxing experience because of its deluxe packaging. Its box is square, which is different from the boxes of HONOR smartphones we usually unbox.
Opening it, the HONOR Magic V6 unit immediately greets you, while underneath it are two boxes. One box contains the SIM ejector tool, phone case, and documentation, while the other box contains the USB-C cable and 80W HONOR SuperCharge.

First Look at the HONOR Magic V6
When it comes to design, I really love how it looks, especially the red colorway. Meanwhile, the white and gold colorways have a more minimal look. The Magic V6 is also slightly thinner, measuring just 8.75mm in thickness.

Even though it is thin, it is very durable. We submerged it in a pool, and it survived like other HONOR smartphones because it has an IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance rating.
By the way, it has a 6.52-inch cover display and a 7.95-inch inner display. Basically, it feels like you have two phones when it is unfolded, making it perfect for using split-screen. Its split-screen feature is smooth, and many apps are already supported, so you can enjoy multitasking on this device.

The HONOR Magic V6 also has a minimal crease, but you won’t really notice it when using the phone. However, if you tilt it and touch it, you can see and feel it.
Moreover, it uses a super steel hinge featuring aerospace-grade precision and a 2,800 MPa steel-shielded structure. HONOR claims that it has passed a rigorous 500,000-fold test.
If you watched my reel on SuperbDan, we did some durability tests, including pulling a 1-ton aircraft with the Magic V6 positioned in the middle to showcase how durable its hinge is. With its durability, we can feel more confident that we can use it for a long time, especially if you are clumsy.
The HONOR Magic V6’s camera setup is quite similar to that of the Magic V5. It still uses a 50MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and two 20MP selfie cameras. Although I am not really expecting it to have a superior camera setup compared to flagship bar phones, we can surely get high-quality photos with this setup.

Under the hood, it is powered by a 3nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 octa-core processor with an Adreno 840 GPU. It is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage.
With that configuration, it is expected to deliver seamless performance, whether for heavy tasks or multitasking, since that is the purpose of this device. But we will find out in our full review if its performance is really great, especially since phones like this are mostly designed for professionals.
Meanwhile, the HONOR Magic V6 also has a 6,600mAh battery capacity, which can be considered large considering how thin the design is. For charging, it supports 80W HONOR SuperCharge, so it should also charge quickly.

Initial Thoughts
I will surely need some time to get used to using the HONOR Magic V6 since this is also my first time reviewing a foldable smartphone. However, its predecessors have left a great impression on users and other tech reviewers, so I’m expecting that I will also like this phone.
The specifications and hardware are already impressive, so it will surely deliver a flagship experience. But when it comes to daily use, we will have to test it ourselves. So, stay tuned for our in-depth review soon.
As of writing, we still don’t know how much the HONOR Magic V6 will cost in the Philippines. However, it will launch tomorrow, so stay tuned!
