Apple has initiated a free battery replacement for your 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro that won’t charge past 1%. According to Apple, this issue only affects just a few numbers customers.

If your battery has this issue, you will see a “Service Recommended” message in your MacBook Pro’s battery health status. But Apple says, if the battery status says your battery is normal, your battery is not affected by this issue.

If you experienced this matter, kindly contact Apple to get your free battery replacement. However, before you get the free battery replacement, they will first examine your laptop to verify if that is eligible.

They also released this week the macOS Big Sur 11.2.1, which can also help fix the charging issue of a few 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro. And Apple also advised installing the macOS Catalina 10.15.7 supplemental update instead of updating to the latest macOS Big Sur.

    Check battery health

To determine if your battery needs service, check the battery health:

    • In macOS Big Sur, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Battery, select Battery in the sidebar, then click Battery Health.
    • In macOS Catalina or earlier, hold the Option key and click the battery icon in the menu bar to reveal the battery status menu.
