MediaTek announced this week its latest 5G mid-range chipset Dimensity 900. It’s made with a 6 nm process technology and is a sensible upgrade from the Dimensity 800 series. This also has a faster CPU and better connectivity options.
The new Dimensity 900 processor features an octa-core CPU with two clusters: one with two Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.4GHz for power and performance, and the other with six Cortex-A55 units running at 2 GHz.
To provide power stability and longer battery life they used Arm Mali-G68 GPU and an independent AI processing unit (APU). MediaTek has boasted that it has the company’s proprietary MediaTek 5G UltraSave technologies, which it claims would improve power quality even more.
This chipset can handle cameras with a resolution of up to 108 megapixels and video capture at up to 4K@30 frames per second. Aside from capturing, it also supports 4K HDR playback, up to 120Hz FHD+ display, real-time HDR composer, and HDR10+.
Moreover, it also supports both LPDDR4X and flagship LPDDR5 memory, as well UFS 3.1 storage.
It has Wi-Fi 6 (2×2 MIMO), Bluetooth v5.2 support, and Multi-GNSS L1+L5 for connectivity. The 2×2 antenna, according to MediaTek, provides smoother Wi-Fi 6 and improved signal efficiency.
When it comes to 5G connectivity, it supports dual 5G SIM cards and downloads speeds of up to 2.7Gbps. It also supports the most recent VoNR services.
