Apple officially released the iPhone 16e, the latest addition to the product line that offers Apple’s top features at a more affordable price, banishing the iPhone SE era of more affordable iPhone versions.
Is the iPhone 16e worth it? This article will help you weigh the similarities and differences compared to the iPhone 16 base model.
The first major difference is the price, of course. With almost a PHP20,000 difference, the iPhone 16 costs from PHP54,990 to PHP73,990, while the iPhone 16e starts from PHP39,990 to PHP58,990.
Both having 8GB RAM and 128/256/512GB storage variants, the iPhone 16 and 16e also run on the same OS, the iOS 18. The A18 processor, which powers more costly models released in September last year, will also power the iPhone 16e and feature Apple Intelligence by default.
Other similarities between the iPhone 16 and the 16e version are its 60Hz refresh rate, fast-charging feature, Face ID function, action button, and USB-C port. The 16e also features dual SIM and the same IP68 rating with splash, water, and dust resistance.
In addition, both lineups have the same 12MP front camera and up to 4K at 60fps video recording.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e both feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, though they differ slightly in resolution and glass technology. The iPhone 16 has a resolution of 2556 x 1179 and is equipped with a Ceramic Shield front. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16e offers a resolution of 2532 x 1170 with the latest generation Ceramic Shield front.
If peak brightness is important to you, the iPhone 16 offers 2000 nits, while the iPhone 16e provides 1200 nits. Additionally, the latter supports Qi-compatible wireless charging but does not have MagSafe compatibility.
It is also good to note that the iPhone 16e has longer video playback of 26 hours than the iPhone 16’s 22 hours. However, this is probably one of the main differences that is worth considering — the camera. The iPhone 16 has 2 main cameras, a 48-megapixel (f/1.6) main camera and a 12-megapixel (f/2.2) ultrawide camera with Macro mode, while the 16e version has only one 48-megapixel (f/1.6) main camera and does not have the Macro mode.
Moreover, the iPhone 16e lacks the camera control button, Dynamic Island, and WiFi 7. It is only available in Black and White color variants. Ultimately, the choice will depend on the buyer’s preferences and the features that matter most to them. What do you think?
