On Wednesday, Google announced that it will display blue checkmarks next to certain senders’ names in Gmail to confirm their identity.

This new feature will be applied automatically to companies that have already adopted Gmail’s Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature, and it aims to enhance the authenticity and credibility of emails received by Gmail users.

In 2021, Gmail introduced the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature, which mandates senders to implement robust authentication measures and verify their brand logo to display it as an avatar in emails. With the latest update, Gmail users will now notice a checkmark icon next to the names of verified senders who have adopted the BIMI feature. This update is designed to enable users to distinguish between legitimate senders and impersonators, thereby enhancing the platform’s security and reliability.

According to a blog post by the company, implementing robust email authentication measures helps users and email security systems prevent spam and allows senders to leverage their brand trust. By enhancing the authenticity of email sources, this approach improves readers’ confidence in the messages they receive and fosters an immersive email experience, thus contributing to a healthier email ecosystem for everyone.

Starting today, Gmail is introducing blue verified checkmarks across both Workspace accounts and personal Google accounts, which will likely become visible to users in the near future. This new feature aims to enhance the credibility and reliability of Gmail, and it will be rolled out gradually across the platform.
